

Retired USAF Major George W. Leake, age 91, of Texarkana, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on July 2, 2026, while under the compassionate care of Concho Heart Hospice, surrounded by his loving family.
George was born on September 16, 1934, in Talco, Texas. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Major after a distinguished military career. Following his military service, he continued his lifelong commitment to excellence as an electrical engineer with AEP/SWEPCO, where he also retired after many years of dedicated service.
A man of remarkable talent and endless curiosity, George was happiest when creating, building, repairing, or learning something new. He loved working with his hands and enjoyed gardening, repairing clocks, candle making, wine making, and a wide variety of other hobbies. He was also an accomplished cook who found joy in preparing meals for those he loved. Throughout his life, George believed in giving back to others, generously donating both his time and resources to organizations that strengthened and served his community.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Ota Sue Leftwich Leake and Thomas W. Leake; his first wife, Francis Ardeanna Minor Leake; his second wife, Betty J. Lawley Leake; and his son, Daniel W. Leake.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Delite Leake; his son, Shawn Leake; his sister, Terrie S. Leake Morehead; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and a nephew, along with many friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
George will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous spirit, unwavering work ethic, and the example he set through a lifetime of service to his family, his country, and his community.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to local charities and organizations that serve those in need within your own community, continuing George's legacy of generosity and compassion.
Family and friends will gather privately at a later date to celebrate George's life and honor the many memories they shared.
