Martha Jane Elrod

Martha Jane Elrod, age 81, of Texarkana Arkansas went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday 28, 2025. Jane was born October 5, 1943 in Texarkana. She was an Arkansas High graduate. She went on to attend Henderson State University where she was a cheerleader and received her bachelor's in English Literature. After graduating from Henderson, she went on to receive her masters degree.

Jane started her career in teaching with TASD and eventually moved to Pine Street Middle School where she loved teaching English to her kids. After several years, Jane transferred to Texas High School where she taught English including poetry and pros to gifted high school students. Her students often went on to win many awards, including state titles. She loved helping all of her students and worked hard to make a difference in their lives.

Jane retired after 33 years of teaching from Texas High School. After retiring she was a full time caregiver to her mother and later devoted her time to her three grandsons, Hunter Elrod and daughter-in-law Kat, Reese Elrod and Jace Elrod. As well as her great granddaughters, Huntlee Anne, Audrey Kate. A special niece Kelli Marcantel. She adored them all and they adored their Granny Jane.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, John and Madolyn Measel.

Other survivors include her brother Dr. John Measel and sister-in-law Linda. Her sons Max Elrod and daughter-in-law Teena, Nick Elrod and daughter- in-law Mandie.

Jane was a member of Beech Street First Baptist Church. Jane loved The Lord and never missed an opportunity to impart that in her family.

Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday May 4th at 2:00 pm at East Funeral Home on Moores Lane, Texarkana Texas with visitation to follow.
