She is survived by Shirley Hickson, sister; Jackie Caples, sister; Barbara Scott, half-sister; Wayne Wallace, half-brother; Bob Hickson, brother-in-law; Jane Wallace, sister-in-law; Sylvia Wallace, sister-in-law and many other loved ones.
She was preceded in death by Opal Porter, mother and Woodrow Porter, father; Gennie Porter, sister; Johnny Wallace, half-brother and Clifford Scott, brother-in-law.
People who did not know her may have looked at her as just someone with a disability but the ones of us who knew and loved her saw her as one of the most strongest and miraculous people we knew. She was severely struck with polio at age 4, told she would never walk but she learned how to walk again. She was told she would never drive so she drove, told she would never work but yet she retired from RRAD. She fought and won many battles throughout her life with sickness caused from polio. She did not want to be thought of as someone who couldn’t do things; she did more things than most people with no disabilities do. She never wanted to be pitied, just treated as an equal, and she would not allow anyone to do so. She would only accept help as a last resort. She also had a strong love for the outdoors, flowers, wildlife, and of course her beloved pets.
