Known to family and friends as ‘Miss Sue’, she was born on September 10, 1948 in rural Miller County, Arkansas. She was the youngest child born to Claude McKinley Thompson and Opal Starks Thompson, and attended public schools in Texarkana, Texas. After graduating from high school, she was employed as a typesetter for a local newspaper in Texarkana. She worked there for twenty-six years before retiring. In retirement, she dedicated her life to working in the church and helping family and friends. Her interests included mission trips, service projects, feeding birds, and taking care of friend’s pets. Many of her mission trips were associated with recovery efforts for areas ravaged by natural disasters.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Beatrice and Helen, and brothers Billy and Claude Jr. She is survived by her brother Dr. Jeff Thompson of Kerrville, Texas, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is remembered as a beloved sister, aunt, and friend.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Bowie County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team fund. A memorial service will be held at the Texarkana First Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 10:00 a.m.
