Dear Joyce and Richard’s family & friends—my thoughts and prayers are with you as we reflect on this wonderful man. Richard has been my friend for well over 30 years. We met as Managers for the Women’s Healthcare Division of Bristol-Myers Squibb. Richard was a fantastic role model as a manager-always putting patients 1st and his people front & center. He was proud to represent the pharma industry. 
Richard enlisted in the Army as a young man and served our country with pride. He loved his family. I enjoyed spending hours w/ Richard talking about family, life, America, work and fishing. Oh yeah-fishing. Richard Upson could fish-he learned so much from his Dad. We fished together as often as we could-from Canada, to the John Day River in Oregon, to the lakes and reservoirs of East Texas. He and Joyce had a barge Wright Patman. We solved the problems of the world while jigging for crappie and slaying largemouth bass. Oh the memories we created! I would not trade our time together for anything.
Richard represented the best of what our country stands for. He was a proud American and a true friend. May he RIP and fish everyday, landing crappie and bass bigger than his imagination.
A special thanks to Joyce, whom he loved from the bottom of his heart. Together they ripped up many a dance floor. On any given day, Joyce could and did give Richard a run for his money as they fished together. During the last two years of Richard’s life-Joyce took such fantastic care of him. I was blessed to spend time with them over the past three decades. Richard-you remain in my heart. Thanks for your friendship and the memories! ❤️

My heart broke to learn of Uncle Richard's passing. There are too many memories to list, but  Our summer fish frys are some of my greatest childhood memories. Rest Easy, Uncle. I'll see you down the road. 💔 

 Thanks for all the wonderful memories we shared with the class of'56 because of the gracious hospitality of Richard and Joyce. There were no requests you could make that Richard did not grant at their beautiful home in the country.  How we loved to gather there and Richard always seemed to enjoy himself more than anyone.  Joyce, you are in our thoughts and prayers.  We loved you both very much. In sincere sympathy, Wanda Clevenger & David Terry.
