Richard Thomas Wheatley

February 24, 1948October 30, 2021

Richard Thomas Wheatley, 73, of Texarkana, TX passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on October 30, 2021 with his wife and one of his daughters by his side.

To describe this man is an almost impossible feat, he was so many things to so many people. He was a kind and loving spouse to his wife Maureen, an amazing father to his three daughters and an even more amazing grandfather to his ten grandchildren. He was a man of great strength and integrity. His greatest accomplishment of his life was his family! For every member of his family he was a role model of what to strive to be. He was your shoulder when you needed one. He was always there with advice and wisdom. He helped anyone who needed it without question. He was your biggest supporter and fan, he built you up and never tore you down. He was the glue that held us all together and his loss will be a void that can never be filled. He was so full of life and such a goof ball, he always made everyone smile with his silly antics. We could go on forever and never do this wonderful man justice, he was our hero! He taught us all to live life to the fullest and cherish every moment and not to dwell on the little things that were out of our control. We will cherish our wonderful memories with him and continue to follow his examples that he has given us and make him proud of the legacy that he has left behind.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother and father, Maxine and Joseph Wheatley, his brother, Don Wheatley, and his son, Christopher Wheatley.

Richard is survived by his wife of 52 years, Maureen Wheatley; his three daughters and son-in-laws, Melanie and Arne Abrahamson, Megan and Jeff McCray, Marci and Sean McCue; and his 10 grandchildren, Joshua, Morgan, Austin, Zachary, Madelyn, Natalie, Ryan, Kylie, Haiden and Jack; and many more family members and friends.

The family will be having a private celebration of his life at a later date and will be restricted to family.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at for the Wheatley family.

I worked with Rick in the automotive business and enjoyed every minute that I was around Rick. Sometimes I was forced to listen to his jokes that he always seemed to have one ready to tell no matter what subject we were discussing. Some of my most fun moments with Rick were traveling to the dealerships or NADA Conventions and see his focus and dedication during the day. Rick was a very smart man and I learned a lot from him.
