

Sam graduated from Arkansas High School in 1971 and attended Henderson State University and the University of Arkansas at Monticello before returning to Texarkana to work with his family at Junkin Lumber Company. He later established Sam Parnell Logging Company and SPAR Transport.
Sam is survived by his son Samuel George Parnell, Jr. of Benton, AR, his wife, Jenny, and their daughters, Abby and Lizzie. He is also survived by his son, Dixon Parnell and his daughter Victoria Parnell both of Memphis, Tennessee. Other survivors include his brother, Dale Parnell and his children; brother Thomas Parnell, his wife, Cyndi and niece, Rebecca Parnell and nephew, Daniel Parnell; his sister and her husband, Maryann and Clay Fricks; nephew Robert Fricks and niece, Georgia Akin; the families of Joan and Thomas Boyles and Linda and Don Andrews.
Sam was a devoted father, son, brother, and friend. All who knew Sam will miss his loving presence. Sam made all women feel beautiful, and he made all men laugh. We will all miss his wit and his unconditional love.
Services will be 10 a.m., Friday, June 17, 2011 at East Memorial Chapel - Downtown with Rev. Bruce Bennett officiating. Burial will be in East Memorial Gardens under the direction of East Funeral Home - Downtown.
