Al McDonald Flournoy II

Al McDonald Flournoy II was born on June 6, 1948 to Al McDonald Flournoy and Leah Josephine Hopkins of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He graduated from Classen High School in 1966. After graduating high school, he enrolled in Oklahoma University but before paying his fees was drafted in the Vietnam War and served from September 15, 1969 to January 14, 1971 achieving a rank of SP5/Grade E5. Upon his return from Vietnam he studied for and received a dual Major Computer Science and Business Marketing degree from University of Central Oklahoma.

Among his many jobs were Supervisor, Education and Training at Oklahoma Department of Human Services in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Functional Manager, Human Resources at Wilson Foods Corporation in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Academic Lecturer at Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma; Project Manager at Charter International Oil Company in Houston, Texas; Manager, Systems and Programming for Human Resource Systems for Global Marine, INC. in Houston, Texas; Senior Technology Pre-Sales Consultant for Management Science America, INC in Atlanta, Georgia; Computer Technology Manager, Database Systems Administration for M.W. Kellogg Company in Houston, Texas; and Senior Principal Instructor (Core Curriculum) for Oracle Corporation, in Redwood Shores, California.

Al Flournoy was an information systems professional with over 40 years experience directing systems engineering projects for business applications, 30 of those years he was a database administrator. Al would have made his 20 years with Oracle in April 2020. His sense of humor and wit made him a favorite among the international Oracle instructor community. He never lost that sense of humor even at the end. One of his favorite professions was teaching. An expert at training and motivating a professional staff, he was a natural leader planning and directing major projects. In the broader business community he is nationally recognized and highly sought-after as a conference speaker.

Al is survived by his wife, Marcie Simoneaux Flournoy, of Houston, Texas; sons John "Rick" Flournoy and wife Gina of Olney, Oklahoma, and Jason S. Flournoy and wife Nicole of Buffalo, New York; grandchildren Dylan A. Flournoy and wife Brittany of Indepence, Kansas, Emalie R. Flournoy of Olney, Oklahoma, and Cooper L. Frankovich and wife Abby of Fort Carson, Colorado. Al is preceded in death by his grandson, John Ross Flournoy.

Al lived a full life. He loved playing golf and his English Springer Spaniels. Al will be missed and was loved by many.
