Alberta Baylor Barker, known to her friends and family as Berta was called home to Jesus on Christmas Eve, 2025. Berta passed peacefully in her sleep with family by her side. She was committed to her family, her faith and her church. Born in San Antonio, Texas on July 12, 1931, she met the love of her life, Kenneth William Barker, at Brackenridge High School, in San Antonio, Texas. They married on New Years’ Eve in 1948 and their marriage lasted 71 years until Ken’s passing in May 2020. Berta is descended from the historic Baylor Family who figured prominently in the history of the United States. Her parents were Charles Albert Baylor and Sarah Lumpkin Baylor.
Berta played the piano, loved singing and music. A painter, she filled her home with beautiful artwork. A lifelong Baptist, she served in various capacities and sang in the choir. Berta outlived her siblings, parents and husband. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Barker Tackett, of Virginia, and Rhonda Barker Coleman, of Texas and her two granddaughters, Ashley Lynn Coleman and Emily Ann Coleman. Berta loved and cherished her family and doted on them throughout her life. She is loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
