It is with heavy hearts, and with deep gratitude for a life so faithfully lived, that we announce the passing of Andrew R. Hernandez, age 89, on September 24, 2026. Born on August 4, 1937, in Wheelock, Texas, Andrew made his home in Montgomery, Texas, and leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, family, and love.
Andrew shared more than six decades of marriage with his beloved wife and soulmate, Maria Elia. Together, they built a life rooted in devotion to one another and guided by an unwavering faith in God. His dedication to the Lord was the foundation of his life, and he joyfully shared that faith with his family, encouraging his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to remain steadfast and never lose sight of God's path.
Andrew lived by a simple but powerful calling: serving his Lord by serving others. Through obstacles, disappointments, and life's many challenges, his faith never wavered and his joy in Christ was never extinguished. He found his greatest fulfillment in the work of the Church and was always ready to help a fellow congregant, support mission work in the Hispanic community and abroad, or step into whatever role was needed. Over the years, he served in many capacities, including head usher, chair of Staff-Parish Relations, lay leader, and as a chief financial officer within the United Methodist Church.
One of Andrew's most cherished traditions was the annual tamale fundraiser at First Methodist Conroe. With warmth, determination, and a gift for bringing people together, he gathered donations and sold tamales to help Hispanic students with educational expenses. In that effort, his generous spirit, his love for God, and his commitment to serving others were on full display.
Andrew also loved baseball and the memories created around it. He coached his sons' baseball teams for a decade and enjoyed attending sporting events, especially cheering for the Los Angeles Dodgers or the Houston Astros, depending on where life had taken him. He was also a devoted Texas A&M football fan and treasured opportunities to watch the Aggies play.
Andrew was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria Elia; his parents, Mike and Isabel Hernandez; his daughter, Denise; his brother, Mike Hernandez II; and his sister, Isabel Robbins.
His legacy lives on through his loving family, including his sons, Andrew Jr. and Dennis; his daughter-in-law, Adrienne; six grandchildren, Brittany, Trenton, Julia, Lauren, Nicholas, and Andrea; and four great-grandchildren, Rafi, Roya, Ezra, and Jackson. Each of them carries forward the faith, values, and love he so generously shared.
As Andrew is reunited with Maria Elia in the Lord's care, their enduring love continues in God's eternal presence. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his steadfast faith, his servant's heart, his devotion to family, and the countless lives he touched through a lifetime of kindness and service.
