August 25, 1931 – February 5, 2019
Barbara “Anita” Head, 87, of The Woodlands, was called home on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 while surrounded by her family.
Anita was born on August 25, 1931 in Bremen, Georgia to parents Clarence and Verlie Cash. Her large family included brothers Chalmus, Wesley and Cohen and sisters Robbie Sue and Mary. She grew up in Bremen and after graduating from high school, she attended business school. She married Bill Head in 1950 and together they had four children- Stephen, Charles, Barbara and Lisa.
While frequently moving due to company transfers, Anita managed the Head household in Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, North Carolina and Virginia before moving to Baytown, Texas in 1969. As the children grew older, she was a real estate agent and administrative assistant for several companies. Anita owned a Merle Norman Studio for five years in Spring, Texas before retiring.
Anita had a talent for music and played the piano and organ for many years in various churches. She also sang in church choirs for much of her life. She was an avid golfer while in Baytown and later, after moving to The Woodlands, was active in a number of civic and charitable organizations. She was a tournament level Bridge player and an avid sports fan—especially the Houston Oilers and Houston Astros.
Above all, Anita was devoted to her four children. She encouraged them to become educated, take on new challenges and be respectful of others. Anita had a strong influence on all her children and always encouraged them to do their best in all endeavors.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents and siblings. She is survived by son Steve and wife Linda, son Charles Head and wife Sally, daughter Barbara Allen and husband Robbie and daughter Lisa K. Gordon.
Her grandchildren and great grandchildren include Rochelle Anita Head; Stephen W. Head and wife Cynthia and great grandchildren Kailyn and Landon; granddaughter Jennifer Murdock; granddaughter Natalie Crawford and husband Tommy and great grandson Pierce Reed Crawford; granddaughter Abby and husband Roger Moore and great grandchildren Lilly and Charlie; grandson Andrew Head; granddaughter Amanda Atkins and husband Jared and great grandchildren Larkin, Logan, Grace and Carter; and grandson Matt Allen and wife Danielle and great grandchildren Aiden, Avery and Noah.
She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives, friends and her caretakers.
A special thank you to the staff at Elmcroft Assisted Living Home for insuring her well being over the past years.
