How many Saturday mornings back during the early '80's in Houston did I spend in my garden, listening to Bette and Bob via the portable radio? I learned so much from both of them and attribute my love for gardening and any successes in my garden to two of the very best gardening experts in our area. Imagine my surprise to have a wonderful neighbor nearly thirty years later who is one of Bette's sisters - and then my delight and honor to meet Bette! What a full and beautiful life she led by touching so many hearts, minds and souls! God's Heavenly garden is more beautiful than ever now that Bette is helping Him tend it! May she rest in heavenly peace. Thoughts and prayers to Bette's sisters and family members.

May God bless the family of this colorful and spirited GARDEN ANGEL. She blessed my mother's life (Virginia Pardue Hodges)and so many others,in their years of college as Philos at Sam Houston State. What a personality she had for educating and entertaining so many of us that listened to the Garden Line on KPRC. I have cherished the "lessons in life" discussions I had with her when I accompanied my mom to Philo gatherings over the years. Such a wise and beautiful soul that settled mine so gently. She is "blooming" and whole, with out suffering in ETERNITY!
I will always be thankful for her footsteps on my heart and soul.

Kay,
I remember the vivaciousness of your Mom. She always had a smile on her face and pep in her step. She was very industrious and helpful to others. She made the world a more beautiful place with her personality and the lovely flowers she arranged so meticulously. You and your family are in my prayers.
Love, Cherrie Boston

Bette Odale was a HUGE exclamation pooint in the Greater Houston area's gardening circle. The years she spent on the radio with Bob Flagg, the probably thousands of gardening lectures she gave, the probably hundreds of horticulture committees she served on and — most of all — her friendly, open, generous persona all combined to make her one of our gardening legends. I adored her, respected her, learned from her, stole (tips) from her, and really loved her. Imagine my shock and delight when I learned, after years of being associated with her on the gardening circles, to find she lived almost literally right around the corner from me in Aldine! I miss her so much and I'm so glad she came into my life.
