Betty Jean Collins, of Spring, Texas went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 4, 2023 at the age of 83 years. She was the eldest of three children to Frank and Grace Fisher born on February 10, 1940 in Amarillo, Texas. Her parents and two sisters, Peggy Harvey and Freda Foster, have preceded her in death.
Betty was the devoted wife of 63 years to her high school sweetheart, Gerald Collins. They were married in Amarillo in June 1960. Betty was the loving mother to two children, Valerie Collins Reese of Spring, Texas and Phillip Collins of Dallas, Texas. She was also a doting grammy to three grandchildren, Natalie Reese Brown, Sarah Reese, and David Reese, as well as great-grammy to Finley Brown, Bryce Brown, and Palmer Reese. She is survived by these as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws that she dearly loved so much.
Betty was always active throughout the years in her church-teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, sitting on many committees, and hosting many adult and youth gatherings in her home. She was also very active in her children's school activities from PTA president to teacher aide. She worked as well in the community as a police department aide, YWCA club leader and vote counter.
Betty had a gift for hospitality and she loved to cook and bake. She also enjoyed crafts, embroidery, and home decorating. She always had a happy smile, listening ear, and encouraging word for the people around her. Her joy for the Lord made others feel welcomed, loved and accepted by her. We will greatly miss her sweet and kind heart.
