

Betty Jayne Cowdrey Keezer , born June 26th, 1939 was welcomed into heaven December 31, 2012 surrounded by her loving family, after a determined fight against Parkinson’s Disease. Daughter of Mr. George Vernon Cowdrey and Mrs. Ila Burghardt Cowdrey, she was born in Temperance, MI but lived most of her life in Greensboro, NC. She spent the last few years in The Woodlands, TX with her daughter.
She retired from Lorillard Tobacco Company but her true passion was during the years she worked as a Lake Warden for the City of Greensboro Parks and Recreations Department.
Betty was a devoted mother to all of her children and very active in the lives of her grandchildren. Her strong influence will forever remain a driving force in each of their lives. One of her greatest joys in life was time spent on the water and fishing, a favorite past time she shared with her grandchildren. She was a determined advocate of those in need and will always be remembered for this special quality. She was dearly loved and will be missed greatly by those who knew her. Even during her final years, Betty was known for her great sense of humor and ability to bring a smile to one’s face.
She is predeceased by parents George and Ila Cowdrey, and brother George Cowdrey II. She is survived by her brother and sister in law Carl and Teresa Cowdrey of Toledo, Ohio, Sister in Law Linda Cowdrey of Sylvania, Ohio, cousin Lenae Stenerodden of Scottdale, AZ, her daughter Kim Pharis of Franklinville, NC and grandsons William Hardin, Ryan and Nicolas Alred, daughter and son in law Laurie and Clay Cantrell and granddaughter Grace of The Woodlands, TX and son and daughter in law Jeff Keezer and Edie Barker, grandchildren Noah, Dalton and Ashton and step-grandchildren Ashley and Joe Barker of Randleman, NC. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Her family would also like to thank the staff of Regent Care Center of The Woodlands and Odyssey Hospice for the care provided to Betty during the more difficult and final years fighting her illness.
A memorial service will be held at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Greensboro, NC on January 24th at 2:30 and funeral services will be held at The Chapel of Peace at Toledo Memorial Park, Toledo, Ohio at 11:00 am on January 26th.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of the Parkinson's Associations or the charity of your choice.
