Betty was born on January 1, 1927 in Breckenridge, Texas to Louis and Vera Mayfield. She attended grade school with her sisters, Norma and Johnnie; the trio lovingly known as “the Mayfield Girls.” While attending high school, Betty met a dashing young fighter pilot named Glenn MacDonald, whom she would come to marry at age 18.
Betty and Glenn worked together to build an exceptional life over the course of 57 years of faithful marriage.
In 1956, the young couple moved to the Houston area where they raised their three children; Brent, Cindy, and Tom. In the early 90’s, they relocated to Montgomery, Texas to design and construct their home in Bentwater on Lake Conroe, where they enjoyed playing golf together.
Betty also loved playing Bridge and was very active in her community, helping to start up “Game Day” at the Bentwater Clubhouse. In her later years, she enjoyed weekly games of Rummikub and pizza with her family.
In addition to being a devoted wife, attentive mother, and doting grandmother, Betty was an accomplished artist and enjoyed oil painting. She was strong in both mind and spirit and was respected and loved by all who knew her. This exceptional woman will be dearly missed and will live forever in our hearts.
Betty was the loving wife to Glenn MacDonald, who preceded her in death in 2002. She is survived by her 3 children, Brent MacDonald (Chris), Cindy Martino (Roy), and Tom MacDonald; 6 grandchildren, Michelle Martino (Ken), Derrick Martino (Kim), Ryan Martino (Jeri), Jason Martino (Sam), Thomas MacDonald, and Stephen MacDonald (Amanda); and 11 great grandchildren, Travis, Bailey, Kyle, Maddie, Jack, Lucas, Ashton, Ryan, Brannon, Keaton, and Finn.
