Born May 22, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, Beverly was the only child of Madeline and Everett Nelson. She attended Florida State College for Women (now known as Florida State University) and later transferred to the University of Florida the year it first became a coeducational institution. While earning her bachelor’s degree at the University of Florida, Beverly helped colonize the Gamma Iota Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha, served as ZTA Chapter President and enjoyed pursuing her hobby of theatre arts. Beverly later attended Louisiana Tech University, where she received her master’s degree in speech-language pathology. She served as the Assistant Director of the Louisiana Communicative Disorders Program, was a faculty member of the Louisiana Tech University Department of Speech and was a speech pathologist with Rehability Corporation in Houston, Texas.
Beverly was a devoted mom, grandma, great-grandmother and friend. A true people-person always accessorized to a tee, Beverly had a way of shining her light in such a special way to those who crossed her path. She loved good conversation, good food, a good martini before dinner, good books, good TV and Broadway plays. She was an avid cook, and blessed her friends and family with her spiritual gift of hospitality. Beverly loved the Lord, and was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, The Woodlands, where she enjoyed participating in St. Anne’s Guild and the Newcomers, Loaves and Fishes, Holy Folders and Office Volunteers ministries.
She is survived by her daughter Candy LeGrande of Winnfield, Louisiana; daughter and son-in-law Valerie and Ted Norsworthy of Greer, South Carolina; daughter and son-in-law Cindy and Brian Taylor of The Woodlands, Texas; grandson Jason LeGrande of Waco, Texas; granddaughter Jaime LeGrande Blake and her husband Shannon of Winnfield, Louisiana; grandson Kenny Norsworthy and his wife Rachel of Charleston, South Carolina; grandchildren Katie and Mati Norsworthy of Greer, South Carolina; grandchildren Lauren and Lily Taylor of The Woodlands, Texas; and great-grandchildren Gracie, Rett and John-Robert of Winnfield, Louisiana.
Beverly will be greatly missed, but her legacy will live on in our memories as we recall her strong faith, giving nature, courage, perseverance and joy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, The Woodlands, Texas, with the memo notation of “Student Missions.”
