Catherine “Cathy” Misher was born on February 4, 1952, with her twin brother, Christopher, in Basile, LA, and departed this life at Suncoast Hospice Care Center Mid-Pinellas, Pinellas Park, FL, on May 20, 2022, from renal failure. She is preceded in death by her mother, Bernadette Ceaser, father, Mayo Ceaser, stepmother, Ora Lee Ceaser, brothers, Philip Ceaser, Noah Ceaser, Earlist Ceaser, and Christopher Ceaser, and sister, Priscilla Richard.
She was raised in Raywood, TX but did not complete a formal education; however, she was a gifted cook, caregiver and nurturer, and worked in various roles within the service and healthcare industries. She married Eddie Misher in 1971, and they later divorced, but through their union, she gave birth to her daughter, Claudette, in 1973.
In the late 1990s, Catherine was a nanny for a Houston family and accompanied them on vacation to Florida. The family returned to Houston, yet she remained in Florida and resided in Clearwater. Many in the Clearwater area knew her as the Gumbo Queen because she would share her Louisiana gumbo and other delicious meals with friends and neighbors. She was a fashionista and loved the colors purple and red.
Catherine’s most recent job was through AARP as a teacher’s aide at a Christian day-care center before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. She enjoyed her family, cooking, assisting and encouraging others, and spreading the Gospel of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Despite her many health challenges, and being on dialysis for over 11 years, the joy of the Lord was her strength, and she shared that joy with all who crossed her path.
Catherine is survived by her daughter, Claudette James, and son-in-law, Abraham James, sisters, Ollie Plummer, Versie Arceneaux, and Helen Perry, brothers, Calvin Ceaser and Chad Ceaser, brothers-in-law John Richard, Sr. (Priscilla), and LeRoy Perry (Helen), a host of nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. She was also the proud Maw Maw to her grand pooch, Roo.
She will be laid to rest on August 18th at Forest Park The Woodlands Cemetery with a Memorial Service to follow that will be taking place on August 20th at Caverdale Community Fellowship COGIC.
