I had the opportunity to work as Rig Asset Manager in Brazil under the supervision of Chad (BU Asset Manager). It was a time of impressive learning curve due to his high level standard. This picture was taken on a Tuesday, October 27th, 2015, myself, Chad and Leandro Mello, another Rig Asset Manager at that time. My deepest condolencies for the family. Great warrior!

My sincere condolences to his family. I think it was probably 1995 when I first met Chad. We worked at National Oilwell together as mechanics. I’ll never forget the look on Galen Husser‘s face when Chad handed him his résumé, and it was a professional contractors résumé. It included all the small arms he was trained in and his experience. Galen Husser responded, “do you know what we do here boy?”

These are the days before cameras are readily available in phones so I don’t have any photos to share. I also remember he and I moving from the shop to the office and working at Ross Hill together where he met his wife, Arlene.

Only fond recollections. Great stories and conversations. A great man.

Chad & Arlene are just good people.  The kind you love to hang around with, grill with, and share fun activities together with your children.  Chad has blessed our family many times with deer sausage and hearty laughter.  We will dearly miss him, pray for Arlene, Cam, Sophia, his extended family, and will happily celebrate his memories together anytime.  There will undoubtedly be a giant hole left in the hearts of those who knew Chad.  He served his country, his Lord, his family, and his friends well.  What a vibrant man he was!  Our deepest and heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.  Big hugs from Houston, The Dunn and Tran families.

Chad and I worked together for 10 years but really didn't know much about one another other than the usual work-type hunting and fishing banter. This past year I spent a lot more time getting to know Chad personally and on a deeper level. I wished we had done that sooner. I enjoyed our conversations and was encouraged by him during each and every chat. He was a good, Godly man and he is missed.

It has really taken a while for me to even register he is no more with us. I know Chad for almost 12 years now and interacted and worked with him in different capacity before working directly in last few years. He was a joy to work with  and very passionate about the journey which we took in Valaris in last year or two. In last one year I was always in touch with him during his illness and he always showed the same enthusiasm towards life and kept a very brave face. He will surely be missed and I am sure wherever he is he will make it a better place !!! 

I recall the first time I met Chad back in Pride International’s Deepwater USA business unit and since that day have had the privilege of work with him over the years. Chad is a colleague, a leader, and a friend. I recall many a times munching on candy and working through budgets & other times where Chad would just pull me on a call to help resolve an issue. No matter what I had going on, I was always ready to work with Chad. My condolences to the Coburn Family

My condolences to the Coburn family….For over ten of my nineteen years at Valaris I reported directly or indirectly for Chad In six different positions. Over the years he became more than just a supervisor. He was a constant source of advice both professionally and personally. Some of which I actually paid attention to and I am better off for it. He had an enthusiasm for the company are truly cared for both his employees, the rigs, and the company. I will miss our talks. Even in an office setting he always had his sleeves rolled up ready to get something done. I dare say no one need to worry about the pearly gate maintenance when he takes up the job. He will be missed... 

I wish I could have met you sooner, dear brother. I wish we could have had more time together and made more memories, the minute we met there was a special connection and the few times we had together were beyond magical. You truly are a hero, so strong, so determined and disciplined and yet a gentle gentleman. I am Blessed that my children and husband got to meet you and experience your amazing energy and strength. You are a wonderful human being, my heart aches for your suffering and leaving us way too soon, and my heart goes out to your loving wife Arlene and amazing children Cameron and Sophia. I know you will watch over them as well as Dad and Natalie. May they find strength and courage as you did through Faith and Love. I know you are with your amazing mother and I know she welcomed you home to the Heavenly Kingdom with so much Love. RIP dearest brother Chad, till we meet again. My brother from another mother… I know in my heart he’s in a better place and waiting for us to join again in the days to come.

I got to know and work with Chad after he finished serving in the Marines and came to work at NOI.  He was such a pleasure to work with,  always  very helpful and hard working.   Such a kind and considerate man.

Chad was such a genuinely good guy. We bumped heads plenty during my time working with him at NSA, but we always found a way to get to a resolution and had deep mutual respect for one another. We traveled to Las Palmas together and he was always kind and patient (and challenging) through my questions and pushback. I am deeply saddened for his family as I recall how much he loved his wife, Arlene, and I remember being tickled at her contact name on his phone. :-)  I am gutted for his family that he is gone far too soon. My thoughts and prayers you can find peace during this horrible time. Melissa 

I had the pleasure of working with Chad for several years in the NSA Business Unit in Houston. He was always so passionate and enthusiastic with everything he did, whether it be work, talking about his service history or softball. Also managed to play a couple of rounds with him on the golf course where he was always great company. He will be missed by many - condolences to his family.

Deeply saddened to hear this. My prayer’s go out to the Corburn family. I ran into Chad for the first time during the preservation of the DS-6 in Las Palmas. He was a great guy to be around, and a very motivated professional.  


I worked with Chad for almost a decade. It was the operations guy vs. the finance guy. We had our differences of opinion over the years, but we always found a way to achieve a gentlemen’s agreement. That was by far more so because of his innate ability to win over people with his wonderful personality than my own negotiation tactics. I am certain he will be missed by so many.

It will be hard to forget the unmistakable Chad Coburn laughter, his passion for family, his pride in serving our country in the Marine Corps, and overall motivation.       I fondly recall many impassioned conversations about the jack-ups that will forever be remembered as they always ended with a smile.

My greatest condolences to all of your Family. I have only known Chad professionally for a few years, but we are brothers from the Marine Corps.  
I am a firm believer we get to pick our last memory of someone, well the one we want to cherish the most. Mine will be Chad’s determination in his eye, passion in his heart, smile on his face and his knowledge and experience. This drove all that worked for/with him to emulate. I will always remember and respect his leadership which is known by many worldwide. 
As I promised Chad, please let me know if there is ever anything I can do to assist your family.

I had the
Privilege of watching Chad grow up from a young teenager, working at NOI and then see his success at Ensco and raising his young family.  He was always kind and professional. He made his mother and dad proud.  Gone too soon!

I recall when I first met Chad.  He was very helpful in getting me up to speed with Asset Management and how we were going to be doing our business going forward.  I've thought about him often for the help he gave me and for my own personal reasons.  He'll be missed.

I was able to work with Chad for 5 years at Ensco, we had a great work relationship and I would often catch up with him and shoot the breeze. One day, something clicked, he put my maiden last name together and he realized that he had previously work with my dad, Kris Bowen! It was like a light went off and he Told me all kinds of stories about the business before Ensco! It’s amazing that two generations of Bowen’s were able to work with Chad and see him in action! We will miss you Chad but enjoy every minute of heaven! 

I've worked with Chad for many years.  On one occasion I was having trouble getting in touch with him for a project, so I cooked some gumbo and potato salad (with mustard) for the entire Engineering Team and invited Chad so that I could talk to him about the project.  It worked!  He will be missed.

Fond memories of visiting DS-11 in October 2017 in Spain with Chad as part of integration - we will miss you friend. 

Had the pleasure to meet him and shared work experiences on the occasions he came to Tenerife for work while employed at Valaris. He was strict nut kind and nice with me. My condolences to his entire family for such a loss.
