Phil was preceded in death by both parents and his siblings William Kestler and Patricia Monte.
Phil is survived by his wife, Susan Andrews Kestler, and two children: son Philip Andrew Kestler who is married to Stefanie Perez Kestler, and daughter Stephanie Ann Kestler. He also has three grandchildren: Charlee Ann, Emma James, and Scottie Marie.
Through actions and words, Phil instilled humor and the values of truth, dedication, his love for God and honor in his children. If he could get the point across or teach a lesson best, although lengthy at times, he would use humor as he knew those listening would remember. His passions were cooking, talking about his deep-sea fishing trips and wishing he could go more often. He was a collector of receipts, grocery lists, and “potentially rare” coins with the optimism of a true dreamer. We found many heavy bags of pennies, so if there is a shortage in the country it was due to Phil. He also never met a scratch-off ticket he couldn’t almost win and to him strangers were just friends he hadn’t talked to for 30 minutes yet.
For years he sold supplemental health and accidental insurance in East Texas and earned many awards. However, the most notable of his careers was working with KBR in support of the US troops during Operation Iraqi Freedom in which he oversaw the building of structures to ensure the safety of our military in Baghdad. He was commended during Operation Iraqi Freedom by successfully contributing to movement operations of the 448th Civil Affairs Battalion. The presence of his abilities, personal and professional, enhanced the environment in which he worked and the success of those around him. Phil was immensely proud of supporting the troops for 10 years and found great joy in his professions.
A Mass of the Resurrection for his passing will be celebrated on Friday May 15 at 2:00PM at Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church 26777 Glen Loch Dr., The Woodlands TX 77381 followed by a reception at his son’s home.
