Jim was born on July 30, 1941 in Mt.Kisco, New York to Clements J. “Jim” Haviland and Nellie Haviland. He spent most of his life in the automobile industry after his time in the Navy. His work in the car business brought him and his family to Conroe, TX in 1978.
Jim enjoyed sports of all kinds. He loved watching Sunday football. He played basketball and baseball in high school and loved to coach kids in his spare time when his kids were younger. In his later years, he found a love for metal detecting all over Texas and Colorado and loved to research the history that might lead to his “big find”. He loved hiking in Colorado and found peace in the mountains.
Jim is survived by his loving ex-wife and lifelong friend, Inez Haviland, his son Peter and daughter in law, Carolyn, his son Brandon and daughter Julie Tolbert, her husband Stephen and their son, his grandson and buddy, Zachary. He is also survived by his brother Doug and his wife, Terry of Hartsdale, NY, sister Phyllis Davis, her husband Bill of Greenacres, FL and his sister Blanche Rowley and her husband David of Staffs England as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Nellie Haviland.
A memorial service is scheduled for December 28, 2020 at 2pm at Forest Lawn in The Woodlands, Texas. Because of the current pandemic, the family reluctantly decided to forego a reception at this time.
