She is survived by daughters Dianne Parker, Janet Frosch and husband Sherwood, and son Virgil Gordon Sommers Jr., and wife Deborah; grandchildren Shannon Patschke and husband Rodney, Scott Husband, Susan Buchholz, Andrew Sommers, Amanda Sommers; great-grandchildren Trevor and Grace Patschke; sister-in-law Nolie Sommers, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Cordie was proceeded in death by her beloved husband Virgil Gordon Sommers Sr., parents Claude Paul and Clara Iola Shurbet, brothers Robert and Harry Shurbet, sisters, Vera Parker, and Alice Shurbet and great-granddaughter Trinity Harris.
Cordie was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She met her beloved Virgil, or Swede as she lovingly referred to him, and they married May 25, 1946. They were blessed with 59 years of marriage together. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and traveling the countryside with Swede by her side, Colorado being one of their favorite destinations. But what gave her the most joy was having her children and grandchildren over for family gatherings. She was a wonderful and loving wife, momma and Dede and will be missed dearly by all those she leaves behind.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 27, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home. Services will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 3:00 pm also at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home , 18000 I-45 South, The Woodlands, TX with Rev Cliff Mayton officiating. Internment will immediately follow at Forest Park The Woodlands Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
