Courtney Donnan Mattingly age 75 of Spring, Texas died peacefully in her sleep on February 9, 2015, following a brief hospitalization for a stroke. She was born in Washington DC and attended nursing school there. In 1959 she married James Lowry, and together they had two children, Andrea and Adam. They moved to Jasper Texas where they divorced and she married her second husband, Claude Mattingly, MD in 1972. She devoted her life to the service of others as a registered nurse and later as a certified physician assistant to her husband. Their creation of and dedication to their rural health clinic was the vocational bliss of her life. Whether she was flying their airplane, working in the garden, enjoying her poodles or seeing patients, her joy for life shined brightly. Her final professional years working with young families were her finest. There are many little girls in East Texas named Courtney. Following her stroke in 2001, and the death of her husband, she came to live with her daughter and spent the next seven years watching her grandchildren grow and continuing to be a source of inspiration to others. She was able to live several years with her nephew and sister as part of their families and she spent her final years with her sister Ruth and brother in law Jack. She is survived by her children, daughter Andrea Offner, son Adam Lowry, and Sister Ruth Weber. She is also survived by her grandchildren Claudia, Michael, Brittney, Samantha, and Chelsea as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren. A private service was held in Spring, Texas on Feb. 25th. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the NPR station of your choice.
