It was wonderful to hear stories about Dane from everyone. I think it will help me a lot with the healing process. Thank you for all the great stories and memories of my dad, they mean so much to me, especially at a time like this. I'm sad but also glad that he will be missed by so many.

I would like to thank everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to pay their respects to my dad. Also to those who couldn't make it and sent flowers. It was an emotional day, but it was also filled with love, respect and laughter, for one of the world's best men to ever walk this Earth.

In contrast to Dane, I had to put up my diplomas to fill the empty walls in my office and add some paintings as well.

One corner of Dane's office. Dane had shown his professional value already at an early stage of his career. His patents took quite some space on his office walls. He did not even have space for his university diplomas, they had to stay in their original envelopes hidden behind technical textbooks.

Last picture I found from Dane taken at the San Antonio River walk in October 2025. He was still optimistic and hanging in, but compared to the picture in Switzerland in 2024, the effects of the treatment and cancer are noticeable.

Many people travel thousands of miles to see it, but Dane had this kind of view from his apartment in Cologne during his Germany assignment.

This is Dane visiting with his dad and brother in the mid-seventies.  It's too bad I couldn't find a picture of them with their mom,  but she always knew what they were up to, anyway, so maybe she was just hidden behind that van in the background.  Together, these three could literally bring down the house with their charm, wit, and good looks. 
As did they all, Dane lived a life of kindness, generosity, and steadfast loyalty to family and friends.  He will be sorely missed.

I was very lucky to have met Dane early on when I joined Shell, he was one of the first people I worked with and have helped me a lot. He was an exceptional mentor, always brilliant, patient and kind.  Everyone around Dane loved him. Thank you, Dane, for the memories and the friendship, it was my privilege to have known you.

Sometimes I did something just to prove Dane wrong, and demonstrate that I can do it, no matter what he or others may say. This does not only include handling  certain creatures, but also tackling real problems in the working environment.

This picture was taken two years ago with Dane, my grand daughter, my grand son, and myself. At this time we were still optimistic that the future was holding many years to come for Dane.

Dr. Dane Grenoble was truly a great man with a noble heart. When we first began working together in 2008, he made me feel welcome from the very start and took me under his wing. He became not only a trusted colleague but also a mentor who shaped my professional journey and influenced many others fortunate enough to work with him.

Dane had a unique ability to guide and steady those around him. When my thoughts and words were racing ahead at full speed, he always knew how to gently bring me back, helping me slow down and see things more clearly. His patience, wisdom, and calm presence made him an exceptional teacher and leader.

As our friendship grew, our conversations extended well beyond work. We spent countless hours talking about family—his beloved granddaughter and my daughters—sharing stories of gymnastics meets, school milestones, college decisions, and dreams for their futures. His eyes would always light up when he spoke about his family, a true reflection of the love he carried in his heart.

We shared many wonderful memories over the years. One that will never leave me was that frightening situation on the train back from Leuna—you may not have realized how much you scared me. Yet, through your resilience and determination to keep living life fully, we were blessed to have more time with you, time that I will always cherish.

Rest in peace, Dr. Dane Grenoble. Thank you for everything you gave to me and to all who had the privilege of knowing you. Your impact will not be forgotten.

I was so sorry to learn about Dane passing away. Even though we didn’t know each other very well as adults, I have fond memories of him being kind to me when I was a child. Please know that I’m thinking of his loved ones during this difficult time and sending my deepest sympathy.

I’ll always fondly remember meeting him back in 2010 when  we went to Austin for the electrochemistry conference. He was so incredibly kind and welcoming, and it was immediately clear what a wonderful person he was. I know how much the two of you loved hitting the golf course together and the deep bond you shared. and I hope those beautiful, sunny, and cherished memories offer a glimmer of peace in the days ahead.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Dane’s passing. You were a remarkable gentleman I had the privilege of knowing for 20 years. You were an incredible professional whose vast experience and knowledge made you a trusted expert among customers and colleagues. You had that rare gift of making even the most complex chemistry and chemical engineering phenomena simple and logical, so anyone could understand.

To us, you were far more than a colleague—you were part of our Asia Pacific family. Your dedication and wisdom were critical to the growth of our business and our technical team in this region, and we could always count on you to support our engineers whenever they needed guidance.

I will forever treasure the many journeys we shared across Asia visiting customers. Beyond the work, your curiosity about nature and the world was boundless, and your sharp observations often amazed me. I’ll never forget that weekend in Sichuan, China, between customer meetings, when you hadn’t quite prepared for the biting 0°C weather. Yet, true to your spirit, you spent the entire day outdoors, exploring nature in just a thin layer of clothes. That was you: strong-willed, resilient, observant, and with a quiet humor that made even the cold feel a little warmer.

Dear Dr Dane Grenoble, you will be remembered not only for your brilliance and professionalism but also for your warmth, resilience, and the joy you brought to those around you.

In your life and working career you meet people who influence and make a lasting impression on you i.e. Dr Dane C Grenoble.

Having known Dane prior to joining Shell was a privilege to work, travel and learn from him for the last 16 years.  Dane was a wonderful humble person who always had time for people, super-efficient , professional and a walking encyclopedia in steam crackers and other areas.

We had many great chats initially on Catalyst Testing, preparations and formulations, Hydrogenation chemistry, and global customers … these chats over the years morphed into better chats on sharing our beloved grandchildren stories, and Twitching (Bird watching 😊), his one liners always made me smile he actually knew more routes to get to Exxon Baytown, than Apple or google maps 

Rest in peace Sir thank you for the memories, laughs and friendship, was an absolute privilege to know you.

I have known Dane for approx 30 years both as a customer and working companion. Sad news on the passing of a good friend and great engineer. Sorely missed .

I write this message with deep sadness. Dane was not only a mentor to me but a colleague, and friend. His loss is not only a great loss to Shell but also a personal loss to all of us who had the privilege of learning from and working alongside him.

He was an exceptional leader and mentor whose guidance, wisdom, and encouragement helped shape my career and life and that of many others. He always made time to share his knowledge, offer support, and inspire confidence in me. His patience, kindness, and genuine interest in the success of those around him set him apart.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a remarkable person whose integrity, humility, gentle demeanor and warmth earned the respect and admiration of everyone who knew him. I am grateful for the lessons he taught me, the opportunities he gave me, and the example he set through his actions every day.

His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched and the countless people he mentored. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

You were one of the first mentors who guided me when I began my journey in Shell/CRI as a PP TSE in 2018. I am deeply grateful for your patience, your willingness to share your knowledge, and the time you took to coach and support me during those early days.
I have always admired your professionalism and depth of expertise, as well as your constant willingness to support our team of TSEs while we grow and expand the APR business. I truly miss the times we travelled together — meeting customers and working side by side to help them through start-ups and troubleshooting challenges. You've made a lasting impression on me, and I know many of us who had the privilege of working with you feel the same. Thank you for everything you have given to the team and to each of us personally. You will be deeply missed.

I had the priviledge of working with Dane since I joined Shell Catalysts & Technologies (formerly Criterion) 13 years ago.  Such a wonderful warm person.  Incredibly intelligent and fascinating to be with.  I had the opportunity to learn about all of his experiences in his long storied career with ExxonMobil and with Shell C&T.  Dane was always there with an answer to a question.  He was outstanding with our customers.  They could ask any question and Dane would have an answer for them. In Memory of Dane

It is with profound sadness that I write this to mourn the passing of Dane.

Since joining the company, I have been fortunate to grow under Dane’s guidance. As an invaluable member of our team, he provided consistent and powerful support to the APR business. He contributed tremendously to the expansion of our catalyst business and built up our APR technical team from scratch. For all of us, he was an exceptional mentor; for me personally, he was also a caring and trusted senior figure.

I still cherish precious memories shared with Dane. I remember he once sacrificed his birthday celebration with his family to prioritize and support our business projects. I felt truly honored to celebrate that birthday alongside him in Beijing. I also still recall his gentle demeanor during his visit to my home. Even though my young daughter could not speak English back then, Dane spoke to her slowly and patiently with great kindness. This small moment fully reflected his warm personality and has stayed in my mind ever since.

Dane’s professionalism, dedication and kindness have inspired everyone around him. We are all deeply grateful for everything he has done for our team and each individual.

Thank you, Dane. May you rest in eternal peace. We will miss you dearly.
