Dave was born on December 6, 1952, in Glendora, CA to Richard and Susan (St. Peter) Mallis. David received a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Southern California in 1975. Upon graduation, Dave worked his whole career for Hydril, first in California, and then Texas, retiring from Hydril-Tennaris with 13 patents.
Dave was an avid sports fan and had season tickets to the Dodgers when living in California and the Houston Oilers in Texas. Dave could be seen at many local sporting events in his trademark baseball cap watching his son Jeff and other neighborhood friends.
Dave was a regular participant in annual tailgates for Jimmy Buffet with his best friend of many years, Bob, wife Nancy and close coworkers, family and friends. Their tailgates were memorable thanks to the creativity and woodworking of Bob who always found a way to make Dave the center of party going parrot head festivities.
In retirement Dave devoted his time to watching sports on TV and collecting sports cards of basketball, football and baseball. While Dave filled up the house, attic and garage with his many cards, he was always quick with a generous gift of a special card for interested parties.
Dave is preceded in death by his father, Richard and his mother, Susan. He is survived by his wife Nancy and two children, Francesca and Jeffrey, his sister Deborah (Krueger) and brother Randall.
As per Dave’s request, no funeral or memorial will be held.
