Dave Zimmerman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and man of faith, passed away on January 29th, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born on December 9th, 1946, in Wooster, Ohio. Dave conquered countless challenges successfully throughout his life, but unfortunately, encountering sepsis was a battle he lost. He lived a full and active life, touching the hearts of many with whom he crossed paths. His kindness, generosity, service to others, and dedication to his friends, family, the Bonterra community, and The Church at Woodforest were unmatched.
He was a devoted and supportive husband to his wife, Linda, for over 56 years. Together, the two built a loving home and a family full of beautiful memories that will be cherished forever. Dave was a proud father and grandfather. His love for his family was the foundation of his life. He was a great provider, mentor, and role model, and nothing brought him more joy than watching his children and grandchildren grow and thrive.
Dave attended Whetstone High School in Columbus, Ohio and was part of the 1964 graduating class. Following high school, he went to Florida State University’s College of Business and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1968. During his time at FSU, he was president of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He later went on to receive his MBA from Capital University before beginning his career with NBBJ in Columbus, Ohio, where he would later become CFO and partner. Dave and Linda then moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he began a new position as CFO of Perkins and Will until his retirement in 2015.
Dave also served two years in the Army, in the 7/67th artillery unit from 1969 to 1971. During this time, not only did he honorably serve our country, but he also began a long, successful career as a philanthropist and adventurer. This includes several church missions to Costa Rica, Peru, the Amazon River, as well as helping start a school in Haiti. He has walked part of the Camino de Santiago twice, the latter of which was done with his youngest daughter, Ashley. Some of his more recent travels include a variety of cruises with Linda. Whether traveling for his career, military service, church missions, or just the love of exploration, Dave made sure to leave no corner of the world unturned.
Along with his travels, Dave also had a strong passion for history and was a life-long athlete. He loved his gym workouts, daily walks, hikes, and in recent years had traded his tennis racquet for a pickleball paddle. When he wasn’t beating everybody on the courts, or watching a documentary about The American Revolution, he could probably be found watching college football, cheering on or shouting at his two favorite teams: the Florida State Seminoles and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a loyal fan with an unwavering devotion that bled into all aspects of his life.
Dave was a genuine, good man with a mission spirit to always want to serve others. He was deeply involved in service, always giving back and contributing to numerous charity organizations. He was actively involved in the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, a member of The Woodlands Rotary Club, member of Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), served as president of the Midtown Atlanta Rotary, chairman of the Bonterra Veterans Club, and chairman of Wreath Across America. Whether it be from his own backyard, or halfway around the world, Dave always went out of his way to put others before himself. His selflessness and compassion for people has and will continue to leave a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be missed dearly.
