D. Gregg Whitacre, age 78, of Spring, TX passed away Feb. 23, 2021 in Spring after a courageous battle with Parkinsonism and LBD. He was born Sept. 4, 1942 in Plainview, TX to JJ and Marjorie Whitacre. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gregg is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Sharon Glover Whitacre, son Nic Whitacre (Michelle), daughter Glenna Tabor Franklin (Michael), grandchild Michaela Tabor and grandchild Grayson Tabor, sister Gwen Crosby, brother James Whitacre, many nieces and nephews.
Gregg answered God's call to preach in 1964 and continued to share His word for over 57 years as a missionary, pulpit minister, and vocational evangelist.
After leaving full-time ministry, Gregg became an insurance agent, retiring after 26 years with Horace Mann Life. After retiring, Gregg continued to work with area churches and as a hospital chaplain. His last devotional was given in September, 2020.
Gregg never met a stranger and found great joy in praying with and for those in need. He had a great passion for memorizing scripture and singing gospel hymns. Having fought a good fight and finished the course, Gregg has received his crown and is rejoicing with his God.
