Diane Dohs Young, 84, of The Woodlands, Texas, passed away on October 15, 2026, following a nearly year-long battle with acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
Born in Hackensack, New Jersey, to George and Grace Dohs, Diane grew up in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey. She graduated from Ridgefield Park High School in 1960 and Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1964 with a degree in elementary education. She began her teaching career at Paradise Knolls Elementary School in West Milford, New Jersey.
Diane met Kurt Robert Young in the summer of 1959, beginning a love story that would last a lifetime. During their courtship, Kurt would ride his bicycle to Lake Tamarac to visit her. They married in December 1964 and spent nearly 62 years together, raising their three children, Karen, Jeff, and Jennifer, and creating a lifetime of family memories.
Their journey took them from New Jersey to Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana before settling in The Woodlands, Texas, in 1985. Diane later returned to teaching in Conroe Independent School District, where she taught fifth grade at Wilkerson Intermediate School.
After retiring, Diane enjoyed quilting and sewing, making hundreds of blankets through Project Linus and the prayer blanket ministry at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church to bring comfort to children and others in need.
Diane loved the holidays and bringing family together. She enjoyed Scrabble, Words with Friends, and Candy Crush, and had a special love for her cats, Timmy and Finn.
Diane was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Jennifer Brown; her parents, George and Grace Dohs; her sister, Caroline DeBaun, and brother-in-law, Ronald DeBaun; her niece, Barbara DeBaun; her parents-in-law, Kurt and Elsa Young; and her sisters-in-law, Diane Wolff and Linda Copp.
She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 62 years, Kurt Young; her daughter, Karen Maddox; her son, Jeff Young, and his wife, Melissa; and her son-in-law, Jody Brown. She was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Emily and Nick Maddox, Liam and Luke Young, and Garrett and Gracie Brown. She is also survived by her nieces, Linda DeBaun, Stephanie Belding, Lela Rondeau, Christine Wolff, and Chelsea Empey; her nephew, Ron ("Rick") DeBaun; and extended family and dear friends.
Diane will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who will cherish the holidays, laughter, and simple moments they shared. They will always remember how she responded to "I love you" with "I love you more," and her familiar reminder whenever someone was flying: "PTTPTDS" — "Please Tell The Pilots To Drive Safely." These little expressions were so much a part of Diane and will always bring a smile to those who knew and loved her.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Forest Park The Woodlands, 18000 I-45, The Woodlands, TX 77384.
A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, followed by a reception at the Woodforest Bank Club at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, 2005 Lake Robbins Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77380.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Diane's memory to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to support blood cancer research and help others facing this disease.
