Dolores Alma Alvarez was a woman whose presence brought comfort, warmth, and a deep sense of belonging to everyone around her. She had a rare gift for making people feel seen and loved, and her heart was always open, especially to her family, who were the center of her world.
Born on January 15, 1951, in Houston, Texas, Dolores lived a life grounded in faith, devotion, laughter, and strength. She shared 52 beautiful years of marriage with her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, George Alvarez Sr. Their bond was one of true partnership and unwavering love that remained a defining part of who she was, even after his passing.
After dedicating 30 years of hard work at ExxonMobil, Dolores retired early and embraced the life she had earned. Traveling brought her great joy, and many of her happiest memories were made exploring new places. One of Dolores’ favorite memories was their unforgettable trip to Alaska, a journey that symbolized their shared love for adventure and time spent together.
Family was always Dolores’ greatest joy. She was a devoted mother to her two children, Veronica and George Jr., and a proud, loving grandmother to Gabriela, Layla, and George III. She cherished her yearly trips with family and counted down the days to those moments filled with laughter, connection, and love.
Some of Dolores’s happiest times were spent with her siblings. Their gatherings were full of laughter, storytelling, and fun—moments where joy came easily and memories were made effortlessly. She also loved shopping and found happiness in the simple pleasures of life, often thinking of others before herself.
Her faith guided her throughout her life. In the early years of her marriage, Dolores and George were actively involved at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, where they sang in the choir, were active members of the weekly prayer group and led marriage encounters for several years. Her faith was reflected in the way she lived—she was generous, caring, supportive, loving, and endlessly inspiring.
If Dolores could be described in one word, it would be fighter. She was a fighter until the very end. She passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Her strength never overshadowed her gentleness, and her love never wavered.
Dolores was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Alvarez Sr., and her parents, Adan Galvan and Beatrice Sanchez.
She leaves behind her children, Veronica (husband Jesus Perez) and George Alvarez Jr. (wife Celeste); her three cherished grandchildren, Gabriela, Layla, and George III; and her four loving siblings: Terry (spouse Roland Palacios), Susie (spouse Mark Cones), Linda (spouse Ralph Cardenas), Jessie Galvan (spouse Rose) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dolores was anything but ordinary. She was the comfort in a crowded room, the steady presence, the loving heart that held her family together. Her legacy lives on through the love she gave so freely and the memories that will be carried forever.
