Doris was born on July 14, 1931 in Colorado City, Texas to Alba and Oleta Thompson. During childhood, Doris preferred to play outside with her brothers and cousins, play with marbles and climb trees. She did not like to play with dolls. Doris also liked to read books and spend time at the library. Doris met her future husband, Robert Eugene Like and they got married in early September 1948. A daughter, Linda was born to Doris and Robert in 1954. A son, Richard was born two years later, completing the family. Determined to do better for herself and the family, Doris decided to enroll in college when her children were in elementary school. While working towards her master’s and doctorate degree, she taught middle school and was a professor at a university. Doris earned her doctorate degree in June 1980. Doris decided to move to the Conroe area to be closer to Linda and Kim Young and their growing family in the early 1980’s. Doris worked as an assistant superintendent for Conroe ISD for many years until retiring in late June 1997. For about eight years, Doris would always spend a week with her 3 grandchildren while Kim and Linda went to Galveston for the week during the 4th of July. She would take her grandchildren out to eat every day and see one movie every day during her stay, but she would have each grandchild do his or her chores daily to balance out the fun. Doris would go to every school musical, awards program, performance and graduation of her grandchildren. Doris also met Dwight Denio in the late 1980’s and they got married on January 22, 1990 and were married for 11 1/2 years before Dwight passed away in August 2001. Even after retirement, Doris stayed active and busy, she would do volunteer work, cross stitch and needlepoint projects, cook elaborate meals and bake treats for everyone. She also enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans play football and Wimbledon tennis matches. Even a broken ankle didn’t slow Doris from enjoying a trip to Walt Disney World in June 1998. Doris was able to live the Woodlands until September 2018 when her health started to fail, Linda and her children moved Doris to Houston to spend more time together. Doris was a fan of western movies, Frank Sinatra and Willie Nelson.
