There are not enough words to express how deeply my DAR sister and friend was admired and loved.  Dottie served as Regent of the Heritage Trails DAR Chapter and I had the privilege of serving as her Vice Regent and photographer.  What a blessing it was to photograph her "in action" during DAR events and Military and Veterans Fundraising events.  In addition to serving as DAR chapter regent, Dottie served as State Chair and National Vice Chair of the DAR Project Patriot Committee with emphasis on the Warrior and Family Support Center in San Antonio.  She was an incredible example  to me and to others as she inspired us to send hundreds and hundreds of boxes to the troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.  One Miiitary Unit was so touched by her generosity that they named the volunteer efforts "Operation Wainwright" in her honor. Dottie's huge heart of compassion for military and veterans did not stop when those she had supported with her love and generosity, came home.  She continued to love her "KIDS" and they loved her as their adopted Mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and "Fairy God Mother" (named by Kristin). Dottie nominated many military personnel at DAR state conference and the DAR honored her right back with the prestigeous Ellen Hardin Walworth Founder's Medal for patriotism. In 2010, as a newcomer to Lufkin and to the work of DAR (I was one of those "on the books" members in Tyler), I agreed to become Regent of Anthony Smith Chapter, admitting that "It's not my thing, but I can do it." What blessings I would have missed had I passed this opportunity!  Dottie was a telephone buddy first. That summer at CC, Conni  Estes and I walked up to a friendly group at the Willard and asked if anybody knew Dottie Wainwright. A quiet little voice answered. The rest is history, with many good memories. Her birthday-celebrating buddies (I have pictures and can name names) invited us to their suite for an evening of stories and an invitation to join the "Be's."  Later several made a road trip, Twila Ilgen Carter's idea, to Crown Colony for a buffet and meeting of local members and prospects. Marty Cox was carrying nine applications in her arms. Dottie strolled into the room and asked, "What can I do to help?" My love and respect for her need not be spoken. Her can-do approach to life remains an inspiration.

Dottie was a frequent speaker at Preston Trail Chapter.  She is a great friend to us and to all veterans.  Looking forward to a reunion in heaven with this sweet soul.

Dottie was a force!  She was much loved by all her DAR sisters and respected for the work she did in DAR.  She could get things done.  She loved her soldiers and they loved her.  We will miss her terribly at all DAR events and look forward to seeing her again in heaven.  My prayers and condolences go out to all her family and friends.

There will never be enough room to write what we all think and feel about Dottie Wainwright!  She was an angel sent from God  to be everything to everyone.  She blessed our family with her never ending love and work watching over our son one of many of HER soldiers.  Her vibrant way of looking at life was so contagious.  Until we meet again... - I know you will assist our Lord with keeping his soldiers in line and you will not stop watching over all of us!

I am a better person for having known and loved my friend, Dottie Busby Wainwright!  She was a one-of-a-kind warrior who upheld and uplifted our warriors daily!  She loved life and a good laugh, and she could spot fake and pretense a mile away!  Her wisdom and charity for others will never be forgotten by me.  Rarely do we find such a genuine Fairy Godmother on Earth!  When she agreed to be my Fairy Godmother to assist in the Cinderella's Closet Project in 2016, it began our true friendship!  She was such an icon of TXDAR, that I was hesitant to ask her, but her response was immediate!  "Will I have a costume, too?"  she asked.  "Of course, the blue cape with the pink bow!"  I said.  "Oh, good!  I have a new suit just that color!" she replied.   What a delight she was as she embraced life doing good for others.  Later, when she was awarded the Ellen Hardin Walworth Founder's Medal,  I was honored to have had a part, however small it was, in helping to pay that much deserved  tribute to her.  I truly loved my friend, Dottie, beyond just the expression of those words, and I will miss her so much,  until we meet again.      Deborah Olive Moran

Dottie is well known within the Daughters of the American Revolution for active membership and never-ending service, including her tireless involvement in helping and loving active military, veterans, and their families. She always had a large circle of close friends who supported her and she did for them as well.  Her heart for others and giving nature was paired with the boots on the ground actions she put forth in good works which will be remembered and affecting many people in waves and ripples, for generations to come. I appreciate her loyalty, her kindness and her love in action. It's the most a person can hope for in leaving a legacy after moving on from this life to the next. Well done, good and faithful servant. She will be missed. God bless Dottie and her family and friends who are grieving our loss. My thoughts and prayers are with them and everyone who has been touched by her life and are all the better for it.

The kindest and most giving person I met along our journey.  I will never forget the day I met her and she held my hand not letting it go.... it was so comforting.  She will be greatly missed but I’m so glad our paths crossed. 

Dottie had the biggest, and most generous heart. She exuded light, love, and hope. She gave of herself, and inspired others to do the same. She singlehandedly raised the money to sponsor our home, and I will think of her always as I walk though my home. Sadly, she never got to see it completed, but she will be here always!!! I love you, Dottie!
