Edie was born in Canada and served at the Canadian consulate in Boston before marrying Dr. John E. Stouffer in 1956. The couple lived in Boston, Massachusetts; Glasgow, Scotland; and Englewood, New Jersey before moving to Houston, Texas in 1961. They had two children, William Edward (Bill) Stouffer and Susan Ann Stouffer Parsley.
The couple and family traveled extensively in the United States, the Americas, and around the world. They read books together constantly. After her husband’s death in 1984, Edie devoted herself to her family, including grandson Kevin, gardening, the study of languages, and books. She especially loved mysteries like Agatha Christie. Edie worked for many years for Lindsay International.
Edith Stouffer is remembered as a loving, wise, determined, and totally unselfish woman who cared deeply about her family and about justice in the world.
