Edna was born on February 6, 1941, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She spent her youth in Fluker, Louisiana and graduated from Spring Creek High School, carrying with her a welcoming spirit and generous heart that would define her life.
After marrying, Edna made her home in Magnolia, Mississippi. Once her children began school, she accepted a position as an assistant in a physician’s office, where she discovered a deep and abiding calling to care for others. Pursuing that calling, she enrolled in the nursing program at Southwest Mississippi Community College, earning her Licensed Practical Nurse certification and achieving the highest score in her class on the state examination. For the next two decades, she devoted herself to nursing in hospitals, nursing homes, and pediatric clinics, offering compassionate care to countless patients and families.
Following her retirement from nursing, Edna relocated to Houston, Texas to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. There, she worked in the legal filing department at United Check Control, Inc., and later part-time at Barnes & Noble—a position that happily nurtured her lifelong love of books and added generously to her ever-growing personal library.
Edna found her greatest joy in time spent with family—at backyard cookouts, holiday gatherings, special celebrations, or simply on the front porch with a cup of coffee in hand. Wherever she lived or worked, she cultivated enduring friendships, often hosting lively jambalaya dinners and joining friends for trips to the beach. She also had a tender heart for animals and cherished the companionship of the many dogs she welcomed into her home over the years, most of them rescues or strays.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mabel Gill Dunn and Noel Jerome Booty; her son, Carey Marshall Lea; and her brothers, Ronald, Howard, and Billy Booty.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Mark Bond; her grandchildren, Travis Bond and his wife, Amy; Samantha Barnes and her husband, Nathan; and Rebecca Bond and her fiancé, Clayton Bozyk; her two cherished great-granddaughters, Annie Barnes and Willow Bond; and her brother and sister-in-law, Arnold and Helen Booty.
