Eleanor Nix Huff passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026 surrounded by her family. She is now reunited with her husband George Huff, whom she was married to for sixty-five years. She is survived by her two daughters, Cindy Hunnicutt and Marcy Sosbee, and four grandchildren, Amanda and Jake Hunnicutt and Grady and Garrett Sosbee. Eleanor was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was loved by all who knew her.
Eleanor was born in Bremen, Georgia on January 17, 1940 to Effie and W.C. Nix. She was the eldest of four children; Rodney Nix who preceded her in death and Marcelle Johnson and Dale Nix, who still live in their hometown of Bremen. Eleanor remained close to her family in Georgia by spending every summer there with her children and eventually her grandchildren. Eleanor graduated from Bremen High School in 1958 and went on to attend a Business College in Atlanta. Eleanor was active in high school as a Majorette in the band and played on the basketball team. Eleanor met her husband George Huff while in high school, through her cousin Roy Davis. She married George at the First Baptist church in Bremen on August 28, 1959. Upon leaving Georgia, they moved to Socorro, New Mexico for George to complete his petroleum engineering degree. While there, Eleanor worked in the secretarial pool and bought their first bulldog Prissy, who was the first in a long line of cherished bulldogs. Upon graduation they moved to Hobbs, New Mexico where George was employed at Mobil Oil. They remained in Hobbs for twenty-one years, raising their daughters and being an active part of the community. In 1980, they moved to Midland, Texas when George relocated with Mobil Oil. She brought with her a steadfast positivity and once again created a loving home for her family. In Midland, Eleanor was very active in Fannin Terrace Baptist church and enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels. She also enjoyed her group of friends who met weekly for swimming at COM, and was active in her Silver Sneakers group at the YMCA. They remained in Midland for forty years where Eleanor survived breast cancer and later became the primary caregiver to George as he battled Parkinson’s disease. Throughout it all she remained positive, selfless, and dedicated to her purpose as a wife and mother.
In 2021, Eleanor and George moved to The Woodlands, Texas to be close to their daughter Cindy. She loved the community they moved into at Windsor Lakes and was lucky to have great neighbors who were always there to lend a hand. Eleanor was also an active member of The Woodlands Methodist Church and looked forward to seeing Bishop Bob Hayes preach weekly, followed by Sunday supper with Cindy and her family. Eleanor loved gardening, her bulldog Lola and most of all, her family. She was selfless, generous, kind, loving and a truly wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. She will be missed deeply and thought of daily.
A celebration of life for Eleanor will be held on June 25, 2026 at Forest Park funeral home in The Woodlands, Texas. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm and be followed by a funeral service at 2:00pm.
