Emma Lee grew up on the farm. She walked to school and later rode her horse to school. She liked school and graduated from Weimar High School in Weimar, Texas. She worked as a nurse's aide at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas. She moved to Houston, Texas, and worked as a PBX operator. At a dance hall in Houston, she met the man she would marry. William eyed Emma Lee as the love of his life at first sight. During the Paul Jones dance, with quickness in his step, he crossed the room and took her in his arms to dance. Emma Lee met his eyes and felt the same. Nine weeks later, Emma Lee Findeisen married William "Bill" Howard Hunter on June 26, 1949, in Columbus, Colorado County, Texas, at St. Paul Lutheran Church by Pastor Wolfe.
She was a faithful believer of Christianity and loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Many friends described her as sweet, kind and generous. She made them feel good and helped them whenever she could. She was loved by many and will be missed dearly. She was a devoted wife and mother. She lived in Houston until 1972 and moved to Oak Ridge North in Montgomery County, Texas, where she built her dream home. Emma Lee and Bill lived there until their retirement in 2013.
Emma Lee liked having parties and family get-togethers. She loved to cook and bake pies. Farm fresh fruits and vegetables were always a must. She loved fishing and her catch would fill the freezer for a year. Traveling and camping were her favorite recreational activity. She wanted to visit all fifty states. Some of her favorite trips were to Niagara Falls, New York City, Washington, D.C., Mount Rushmore National Park and Honolulu, Hawaii. She also enjoyed her weekly bowling team, winning many trophies. Emma Lee and Bill loved to dance since they met so it was easy for them to join the Belles & Beaus, Springalings Square Dance Clubs. These years gave Emma Lee abundant joy.
Emma Lee cherished her pets. Over the years, she had cats, dogs, birds and squirrels. Midnight was her favorite cat, who lived a long time. Bill and Emma Lee bred and raised German Shepherds for puppies. They were named Duke, April, King, Cadet and Fritz. In recent years, Emma Lee had Rat Terriers named Minnie, Mickey and Dolly.
