Born in Alton, Illinois on December 6, 1946, Gene attended high school in his hometown and went on to receive a doctorate degree in chemistry from Iowa State University. He worked for the pharmaceutical industry where he had a successful career spanning more than 25 years.
He met his beloved wife Sandra Lewis while working on an assignment in San Juan, Puerto Rico and they married on February 6, 1993. They moved to Conroe, Texas in 2001. Gene was a loving member of his community, respectful and kind to all he met and always willing to lend a helping hand where needed. He had a passion for reading and collecting coins but more than anything he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Gene will be dearly remembered not only by his family, but by everyone who had an opportunity to interact with him, from the waiters at his favorite restaurants to the nurses at his doctor’s offices.
Gene is preceded in death by his dad Alvin Lewis, his mom Francine Lewis and his sister Linda Lewis.
He is survived by his spouse Sandra, his children Sandra Jimenez, Vivian Martinez and Rafael Fernandez, his grandchildren, Andrea, Noelia, Diego, Pablo, Adrian and Sebastian and his siblings, Nelson & Gayle Lewis, Robert Lewis and Julie and Terry Kraus.
The service to honor Gene’s life will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Forest Park -The Woodlands Funeral Home and Cemetery located at 18000 I-45 South, The Woodlands, Texas 77384. In lieu of flowers you can make a donation to St. Vincent de Paul Society (St. Vincent de Paul - Sacred Heart Catholic Church - Conroe) at 145 Madeley Street, Conroe, TX 77301.
