Faye Vamvakias, age 71, passed away on March 6, 2018 in Tucson, Arizona after a long battle with multiple health issues.

Faye was born August 16, 1946 in Canton, North Carolina to Hazel G. Conard and John B. Haney. In 1955, her family moved to Pasadena, Texas where Faye attended school, graduating from Galena Park High School in 1964. Faye married Christopher Z. Vamvakias in 1967 and later divorced in 1982. She was a wonderful and loving mother to her daughter Nicole Vamvakias and son Kevin C. Vamvakias. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and always held them as her highest priority. Faye worked as an Administrative Assistant at multiple companies including NASA, Vinson & Elkins and Enron. In the early 1990s Faye completed her degree in Business Administration at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. After that she pursued a career as a Quality Auditor at the global engineering firm of ABB.

In the work world, Faye’s organizational skills were well known; her ability to plan and coordinate complicated efforts enhanced any role she chose to take. Besides her wise advice and sympathetic ear, friends appreciated Faye for her business acumen and her interest in discussing the latest novel. She was a familiar presence at her local library, picking up the next stack of books to read. In addition to reading, included in her favorite pastimes were music, pop-culture and her love of travel; she visited multiple countries in Europe, as well as Canada and Mexico. Faye enjoyed traveling via cruise ship and cruised the Caribbean several times, as well as Alaska, The Panama Canal, Nova Scotia and Halifax.

Faye was a member of Friends of the Library, American Association of University Women (AAUW) and The Assistance League of Tucson. Prior to her illnesses she enjoyed doing volunteer work for each organization.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her son and her former husband, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by her daughter Nicole Vamvakias and son-in-law Damon Knox; her brother John Haney, a niece and nephew, and several cousins.

I've worked with your mother since 2005, with purchasing her home in The Woodlands, leasing it out each time it needed a new tenant and looking for a home for herself. She was a sweet person and we had good times in our searches. I'm going to miss not hearing from her.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

May you be comforted by your memories and the hope of seeing your mama again in the afterlife, healed and perfected. I’m sorry I never met her in person but knowing your relationship with her, I am certain you were the greatest joy in her life and the best legacy of her life here on earth. You were tops at taking care of her, and you went the extra mile to help her live out her last days as she wanted. That is no small gift.

Dear Nicole,
Your mother was such a beautiful person - inside and out! I wish I could have known her longer. The past four years showed what a warrior she was but her battle didn't stop us from sharing great conversations and food!
She was so blessed to have you as a daughter. You showed her such devotion and love and where there for her until the beginning of her next journey.
Hoping you and Damon hold good memories close to your heart, to fill the void but know that she will be with you always now in spirit.
Love you!
Barb and Dave

Dear Nicole, Damon and family
Thanks so much for sharing your Mom with the Civano area of Tucson.
I believe I first met Faye in book club here or perhaps at a Saturday morning coffee at the rotunda.
She was a very gracious lady , kind and thoughtful. She was a volunteer in the local library here as well . Books, well stories, are a shared passion for many of us.
I believe she enjoyed Arizona , we enjoyed having her in our midst, she will be missed.
