Fran was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on January 5, 1924, the seventh of nine children born to Sadie Loughlin and John Maher. Frances attended Plainfield High School in Planfield, New Jersey, and secretarial school thereafter. She began a secretarial career after graduation.

She was married to Joseph David Cunningham in 1949. They were happily married for 59 years, until his passing in December 2008. Fran and Joe raised four children, Kenneth, Jane, David, and Eileen.

Fran resumed her secretarial career in 1972, working for the Houston Independent School District until her retirement in 1988.

She was very active in church life and was a member of Catholic Daughters for more than 35 years, and in recent years was a member of the St Anthony of Padua congregation in The Woodlands.

Fran and Joe loved square dancing and round dancing and were members of the Pasadena Squares for many years. After Fran and Joe moved to Country Place in Pearland in 1988, Fran and Joe organized the Country Place Squares club. Hi, Eileen and all family,
I was your parents' CPA in Friendswood. My Aunt Mary, living in Country Place, referred them to me many years ago. Joe, a former CPA, liked to compare his tax return, prepared by him, to mine. One year he brought a new investment in Stanford Investments which he highly recommended to me personally. I told him that it looked too good to be true and that I would pass on the offer. Fran comes in the next year telling me thanks repeatedly. It seems Joe was on the verge of investing all of their money in Stanford, and, on my lack of interest, he changed his mind. By then it was widely known that Stanford was a ponzi scheme. Fran came back every year after until she moved to the WL, always thanking me again. I so much enjoyed working with both of your parents, but Fran always reminded me of my mother, born in 1923. My mom had obvious dementia for many years, so speaking to Fran who had not a shred of dementia, was wonderful. I'll always remember Fran's composure, her warmth, and her intelligence . My Aunt Mary, now age 92, very much enjoyed her friendship with Fran, too. What a life!
