Fr. Francis was born in Barstow, California in 1942 to Eleanor and Albert Frankovich. He is the elder of two sons. He entered St. Francis De Sales Seminary in 1960 which was located on the campus of the University of San Diego. On the same campus from Immaculate Heart Seminary, he was ordained a priest May 31, 1968 for the Diocese of San Diego, California.
He served 10 years in various parishes in the San Diego Diocese and then, when the Diocese of San Diego was split forming two dioceses, he served 11 years in the Diocese of San Bernardino which included two years serving in the Diocesan Serra House of Formation for Seminarians in Riverside. During his years as a priest, he studied for a Master’s Degree in Theology at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio. He also attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska for a certificate in Spiritual Direction while assisting the Institute for Priestly Formation on that campus.
With the permission of his bishop in 1989, he went to join the Companions of the Cross. As a Companion, he served at St.Mary’s in Ottawa, Canada as their Pastor and then spent three years working in the formation of the seminarians before being assigned to be the Director of the Catholic Charismatic Center (CCC) in Houston, Texas. After six years as Director, he was assigned to continue at the CCC working with the Spanish- speaking community in areas of evangelization and formation.
Fr. Francis had been invited and had participated in evangelistic events in Mexico, Colombia, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, Peru and in the Dominican Republic. On one of his visits to Colombia, he was asked to write a book. After prayerful consideration, he sensed that he was to write about forgiveness. Working through this issue in his own life and seeing the tremendous need to understand and practice forgiveness in a way that was practical and produced fruit, he wrote Forgiving from the Heart in English and Spanish.
He also formed many disciples through his class called Walking with Jesus in the Holy Spirit to the Father.
Father Francis main priority was to Evangelize. He was never too busy for those who seek The Sacrament of Reconciliation. Father Francis always prioritized assisting those in most need. He was truly a walking Angel here on earth!
During his spare time, he enjoyed reading, listening to classical music, and eating delicious healthy food.
Father Francis touched the lives of many bringing the love of God to their hearts.
“A devoted priest, a great confessor, and a good friend and brother. You will be deeply missed.” -Bp. Scott McCaig, CC
