For days at a loss for words to adequately express my dismay at Gary's sudden passing.... for days images from the past have fleeted through my head .... Gary's bonn vivant self holding forth at horse shows, sitting in a folding camp chair with beverage-holding arm rest; Gary's exhortations to the judge "There it is, your Honor" delivered with no need for megaphone; Gary running the sound system at LSGPHA Playdays; Gary's perplexed "can't you tell the difference between a running walk and a rack??"; Gary's sincere enthusiasm when his clients emerged triumphant from the show ring, (and his wise counsel for future success when they did not); Gary's sardonic "What is this, a drop-in clinic?" when Linda McD and I would swap lesson times, conferring enroute on who was running most late that morning; Gary bemusedly watching me trying to turn my trailer around in the space between their barns; Gary taking whatever horse I brought in and doing his best to make silk purse from sow's ear, and largely succeeding, proof being a stash of blues and championships .... Not to forget Double C Texas Walkers's support of the show scene with the long-standing Texas Spring Classic and the more recent Jackpot show. In the next life, may Gary park his Dually any place he pleases, and fish and feed the birds likewise! He will be sorely missed in this one...

Gary, you were and always will be the absolute love of my life. You taught me so many things over these past 30 years. I love you more then life itself. I will live the rest of my life with you in me. You are my one and only. I love you forever.

Dad,

Your passing has been overwhelming for me. I’m being strong for Mom and Heather but life will never be the same without you.

You have always been there for Heather and I as a father and a friend. Your love, support and guidance could never have been matched by another. We were so blessed when you married Mom and took us in as your own. The memories we made over the years will keep you with me always. And I know you will always be there watching over me...maybe even still playing pranks on me from heaven.

Rest easy knowing we will always be there for Mom. Until we meet again, I will love you forever and always.

Love you,
Teri

when I was younger me and my parents would go to Debbie and Gary’s house to hang out.I will always remember shooting pool with Gary. He liked to give me a hard time when we played against each other lol. And I remember the Dallas cowboys games being on we both like the cowboys.

Gary, I am very thankful for our friendship. Before we became friends, you were a great mentor and manager. I appreciated how hard you pushed me so that I could succeed in management as well. You were all about teamwork and having the best store possible and I will forever be grateful for all that you instilled in me and your employees. You were tough, but it was because you wanted the best for all of us. I learned so much and it really helped me to grow in my career. Then I met Debbie and worked for her as well and we became great friends and Kelley and I started spending more and more time with you both and you became our very dearest and best friends. We had the best of times and I will always remember and cherish those memories forever. You all became family to us and you treated us like family as well. You were a pain in the rear, but we loved you dearly. You were always picking at me, but that was just who you were, and that made you Gary. I really can't believe that you are gone. But, I know that you are looking down on all of us and you know we will take care of each other.. I will always be there for Debbie, Teri and Heather, so you know you don't have to worry as we will look out for them for as long as we are here on this earth. I love them with all my heart! You will be missed my friend! Thank you for being part of our lives. I just wished we had have spent more time together these past several years. We always think we have time, but today it is clear that we just don't know how much we actually have left. Much Love, Monique & Kelley

Gary,
As I read all the other stories of you, and although we hadn’t seen each other in a couple years, this all reminds me how you were always so polite, supportive, and gracious towards everyone. Whenever I saw you, you always had a smile, and you always greeted me with a friendly handshake. I can truly say, over all the years we knew each other, I don’t ever remember a harsh or raised word. If we put a great spin on the old expression, “a good ol’ boy”, well, that was certainly you sir. You and Debbie have raised a pair of gracious and considerate daughters, and I expect their lives will be filled with great stories of your family. (And those Thanksgiving yeast rolls! Man, yours were the best!)

This man was the best father I could ever ask for . I am very thankful he was in my life for almost thirty years. He raised my sister and I to be disciplined, loyal, and loving . From teaching me how to swim, to spell and to not be a quitter. I will be forever grateful for having such an amazing role model growing up . I’m very sad that you won’t be here to watch me grow anymore but I know you are looking out for me still. Thanks for always being there and loving our family no matter what. You will be truly missed, and Sunday dinner will never be the same without you and your amazing dinners. Love you very much.
