Formerly of Wheaton, MD, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2012 at his home in The Woodlands, TX.
George Jelly was born in Washington, D.C., to George and Margaret Jelly.
Often referred to as Georgie by his family and friends, George could accomplish most anything he set his mind to do, even at a very early age. A very nostalgic man, he cherished traditions and family keepsakes that had been given to him over the years; he enjoyed telling the background story behind each item that he kept safe.
George graduated with honors from the University of Maryland in 1980; he relocated to Houston, TX after being recruited by a major oil and gas company, where he worked for the last 31 years in the areas of commercial supply and distribution, land logistics, and marine logistics. He was instrumental in pioneering ground-breaking logistics contracts with 3 major railroads in the U.S. and Canada, contracts that benefited his company; unprecedented at the time, he worked these relationships on a long-term basis.
He loved cycling, Nascar racing, travelling, chocolate, Maryland blue crabs, Ledo’s pizza, Christmas, his Porsche, and most of all time spent with family and friends. Often contemplative, loyal, outspoken, and generous to a fault, he will be missed by countless colleagues, friends, and family members.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret Jelly, his brother Robert and wife Polly Todd, his brother Richard, and his sister Jeanne App and fiancé Michael Gardner, all of Maryland. George also leaves behind his Texas family, fiancée Linda Rodriguez and her children, Britthaney and fiancé Grady Enos; Cameron and fiancée Marshika and daughter Leah; and Christopher, wife Mindy, daughter Savannah, and son CJ. George was preceded in death by his brother Gregory and his father George Henry Jelly, Jr.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 11:00 in the Chapel of Forest Park The Woodlands.
