Born on January 28, 1946, in Fort Worth, Texas, Glenda was the first-born daughter of Mac and Nettie Lee McDonald. Her childhood was surrounded by the family love of her parents, sister, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins before the McDonalds moved and settled in Houston. It was there that fate guided her path to Larry Smith—her future husband—whom she met in a fifth grade classroom as a sweet ten year old girl. What began as childhood sweethearts blossomed into a lifelong bond marked by unwavering love, shared dreams, and laughter.
Glenda and Larry walked through their younger years, hand in hand, at Black Junior High and Waltrip High School. She loved cheering on Larry during his football games, having fun with her girlfriends, and attending school dances with their gaggle of friends. After graduation, Glenda attended Texas Christian University, proudly following in her father’s footsteps. On February 19, 1966, Glenda and Larry were married—a union that became the cornerstone of their lives. Together, they raised two children, Teri and Jason, nurturing them with steadfast love and support. Their home echoed with laughter and purpose as they built a family business together—Glenco Home Inspections/Glenco Pest Control—a testament to their shared vision and tireless dedication.
A devoted mother, Glenda never missed a game, performance, meeting, or milestone. Her presence was constant—a force of encouragement behind every achievement. That same boundless love extended to her grandchildren, who knew her simply as “Nanny.” In their lives, her laughter rang brightest when surrounded by their energy and affection.
Rooted deeply as a Texan, Glenda embraced the traditions of her beloved state with pride. She and Larry were passionate supporters of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and served as officers with the Texas Longhorn Breeders Gulf Coast Association—roles that reflected both their heritage and fun-loving spirit.
A lifelong follower of Jesus Christ, Glenda lived with faith at the center of her heart. She is now reunited with her parents, Mac and Nettie Lee McDonald, and her sister, Beverly McDonald Acock.
Leaving here on Earth to cherish her memory: Her lifelong soulmate, Larry Smith. Children: Teri Elaine Howerton and husband Rodney, Jonathan Jason Smith and wife Lee. Grandchildren: Hayden Howerton and wife Kara, Dylan Howerton and fiancé Macy, Aaliyah Smith, Elijah Smith, Armani Smith, Stella Smith, and Lillie Smith.
A Celebration of Glenda’s Life will be held on August 17, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Forest Park/The Woodlands – Chapel, located at 18000 I-45 South. Guests are encouraged to wear her favorite color—black—and bring a cherished memory or funny story to share with family and friends.
