Glenn Lee Darby entered the arms of his Savior in heaven on Friday, July 18, 2025. Born on March 17, 1943, in Pasadena, TX, Glenn was the only child of Otis and Geraldine Darby. He excelled in sports during his youth, playing football for Pasadena High School and attending Rice University on a track scholarship. He graduated from Rice with a degree in business.
It was in the Rice Library that he met his future wife, Sherry Lorraine Wynn. They married on August 7, 1965, and were married for 58 years. Sherry was the love of his life, and they both signed their cards and letters with "MTTYLTT" (I love you more today than yesterday, less than tomorrow). On February 2, 1972, Glenn and Sherry adopted their only child, Kelly Dawn.
Glenn pursued his dental education at Baylor Dental School in Dallas. His first private dental practice was on Jones Road in Cypress, TX, where he practiced for over 20 years. In 1995, Glenn and Sherry moved to Montgomery, TX, where he opened a new dental office. Glenn was a compassionate and skilled dentist, missed by many when he retired in 2017.
In 1969, Glenn enlisted in the army, serving as a dentist assigned to Fort Lee, Virginia. He was eventually deployed to the 71st Evacuation Unit in Pleiku, Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on August 7, 1971, after two years of service. In 2017, Glenn was diagnosed with parkinsonism, a result of his exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam. He bravely battled the health challenges it presented in his final years.
While living in Cypress, Glenn was an active member of Cypress Bible Church, serving on the missions committee, as an elder, and in various other leadership capacities. For over 20 years, he and Sherry hosted a weekly Bible study in their home, which Glenn led. He was a fervent student of the Bible and continued to teach and lead at Faith Bible Church in The Woodlands and Creekside Bible Church in Spring. He was also one of the initial board of trustees of Grace School of Theology in The Woodlands, participating in its founding in 2002.
Glenn loved Astros baseball, once being mistaken as a doppelganger for Nolan Ryan. The Houston Rodeo was an annual family event; he allowed his office ladies to choose from his annual tickets to the HLSR, but the George Strait tickets were always his.
With an eclectic taste in music, you never knew what you would be listening to when you rode in his car. Golf, more than just a hobby, was a lifelong passion, as well as the motivating factor for his career choice: dentists could play golf two days a week! He participated in numerous tournaments, played on some of the world's most famous courses, and even appeared on the cover of Golf Digest with his dearest friend and golfing buddy.
Glenn's most cherished retreat was always his farm in Shiro, TX, where he spent as much time as possible raising registered Polled Herefords, riding horses, mowing, baling hay, and relaxing on his lounge chair under the shade of the bois d’arc tree. He loved nothing more than taking friends to this beautiful and serene place. Over the years and through the transitions and challenges of life, he generously allowed many family members to make it their home and retreat.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Geraldine Darby, and his beloved wife, Sherry Lorraine Wynn. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kelly Wood and Dean Wood, and three grandchildren: Karis Wood; Karsten Wood and wife Ana; and Darby Wood and fiancé Greyson Landrum. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, David Wynn and wife Carol; his cousin, Judith Bennett, who was like a sister; his lifelong friend, Tex Spear, who was like a brother, and Jennifer Sears Morgan, who was like a daughter.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 27, at 2PM at Forest Park, The Woodlands, 18000 I-45, The Woodlands, TX 77384. The family will receive visitors one hour prior. Following the service, Glenn requested that we all gather at his favorite place, Darby Hill Farm, for BBQ. Please join us: 13316 FM 2620 Bedias, TX 77831
In lieu of flowers, Glenn requested donations be made to Dean & Kelly’s ministry account (acct. #9787) at East-West Ministries International, www.eastwest.org/deankellywood. Donations can also be directed to Grace School of Theology, 3705 College Park Drive, Suite 140, The Woodlands, TX 77384.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Unlimited Care Cottages for their compassionate care. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to all our friends and family for their love, support, and prayers during Glenn’s extended illness.
