Glynn Preston Lambert

He was born on a farm just east of Granger, Texas on May 31, 1933 at the end of The Great Depression. Some would say he grew up very poor, but you would never hear him say that. His wonderful mother Essie, provided him all that he needed, especially his Christian upbringing and values. He enjoyed the country life with his uncle Riz who taught him how to hunt and fish.

He graduated from Granger High School in 1950 at the age of 17. He was president of the student body and of the Senior Class. While playing football for Granger, he glowingly notes that they never lost a football game in 3 years. Immediately after graduation he moved to Austin where he became a manager of Lockhart Dairies Drive-In, on Congress Avenue. In 1952 he enlisted into the Marine Corps Reserve in Austin, Texas and later that same year, enlisted into the regular Marine Corps. His previous experience as a manager secured him the position in the PX. He was transferred to Washington D.C. to work at 8th and I, with the Honor Guard. There, he met and married Beverly Larsen. They were married at the Naval Gun Factory in 1955 and had their reception at the "Marine Band Hall", where the Marine Corps band furnished the music. He was assigned duty stations in the Marine Corps at Okinawa with the 3rd Marine Division 1959-1961. He also did a tour with the 1st Marine Division in Viet Nam in 1968. Glynn rose through the ranks. This was one of his proudest achievements when he was commissioned as an officer in the Marine Corps rising from Private to Captain, known as becoming a "Mustang". He retired from the Marine Corps after 20 years.

After leaving the Marine Corps, he went to work for NCS (Stop N Go Markets), a convenience store chain out of Houston, Texas. He was promoted to Zone Manager where he was responsible for a 4-state area. Once he mastered the trade, he moved back to Austin and opened “Dandy’s”, a small chain of convenience stores that he owned and operated with his family. In 2004, he and Beverly retired and moved to Windsor Lakes in The Woodlands, Texas, to be closer to their grandchildren.

He and Beverly loved to travel. They enjoyed many cruise ship vacations, and trips to Las Vegas with their friends and family. Two of their favorite trips were to Denmark and Hong Kong.

Glynn was a Mason awarded the 50-year pin in 2016. He was also a 32nd Scottish Rite and a Shriner.

Glynn would tell you that next to God and his family, the Marine Corps was one of the most important things to him in his lifetime.

He is survived by his sister Shirley. His three sons and their families: Richard Preston, and his wife Lorena and daughter Ludovica; Jeffery Curtis, and his wife Christi; Garner Wayne and his wife Debbie. Granddaughters: Jacqueline and husband Wesley; Marissa and husband Ramiro; and Nicolette and husband Tom. Great Granddaughters: Evelyn and Aurora, and numerous well-loved nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by the “Love of his Life”, Beverly, Mother Essie Tucker, Brother Curt, Sister Juanda, and Nephew Patrick Hinshaw.

Gynn was a beloved family member (father, grandfather, uncle, brother, husband), he was a mentor to many, and one tough Marine.
