She was born in St. Martinsville, Louisiana on July 25, 1941.
Helen graduated from Carver High School and attended Grambling State University.
She was married to Dr. Lloyd Edward Roberts, Sr., ThD on September 5, 1964.
She worked for the State of Louisiana for many years in various administrative roles until she retired in 1993.
Helen spent most of her life serving in various capacities as either a church member, leader, or First Lady. Before her passing, she served as President of several Baptist Church districts throughout the country. As late as 2024, Helen severed for several years as President of the Mission Board at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny, Sr. and Hilda Lewis; her father-in-law and motherin-law John, Sr. and Mary Ann Roberts; her only son, Lloyd Roberts, Jr.; and her brothers Elder David Lewis, Sr. (and his wife Deborah), Rev. Robert Lewis, Sr., and Emory Lewis, Sr.
She is survived by her husband Dr. Lloyd Edward Roberts, Sr. ThD; her daughter and son-in-law Jeffrey and Carmella Bridges; her grandchildren Gabriella and Helena Bridges; her sister and brother-in-law Leward, Sr. and Hilda Bourda; her brother and sister-in-law Johnny, Jr. and Willie Mae Lewis; her brother Calvin Bourda (husband of her late sister-in-law Laura), her sisters-in-law Laurenzia Lewis (wife of the late Rev. Robert Lewis, Sr.) and Susie Lewis (wife of the late Emory Lewis, Sr.).
She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and neighbors too numerous to list, but also loved just as dearly by Helen.
Visitation will be held at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 6616 D S Bailey Ln, Houston, TX 77091, US, on August 7, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at the same location starting at 12:00 pm.
A Repass will take place at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, immediately after the service.
Graveside Service will be held at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038, US, on August 10, 2026, from 12:45 pm to 1:15 pm.
