September 21, 1933 – February 2, 2026
Hubert Bernard Willman was born to George Alexander Willman Senior and Maria Magdalena (née Waizenegger) Willman in Kansas City, Missouri, as the 5th of 7 children. On February 2, 2026, at the age of 92, Hubert passed away peacefully surrounded by family, caregivers, and his loyal dog Dolly.
Hubert is predeceased by his wife, Annabel Elaine (née Solomon), his parents, George Senior and Maria Magdalena, his sister Barbara Alexcite and brothers George Junior, Richard, Walter, and James, and his grandson Jake Hampton.
Hubert is survived by his sister Patricia Angotti and his children, George Alexander Willman, Krista Willman Formica, and Monica Willman Hampton, his grandchildren Natalie Hampton, Nicole Hampton, Elaina Formica, and Paul Formica, and many loving in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Born into a family recovering from the Great Depression raising chickens in their backyard for food, Hubert possessed a natural restless alertness, a way of seeing how things worked, and the vigor to build upon that understanding. At Hogan High, Hubert and his brother Jim studied the mechanics of the hurdles to master a more efficient, fluid, and winning stride—a knack for seeing around corners that would define his life. Hubert was the first in his family to graduate from college, studying philosophy at Kansas City’s Jesuit Rockhurst University. He worked his way through school at Sears Roebuck, in the Kansas City rail yards, and in a construction business Jim and Hubert operated out of a truck they bought together. Hubert was proud to have served his country in the US Navy, sailing from San Diego aboard the USS Jason Vulcan-class repair ship for service in Sasebo, Japan. Immediately thereafter he studied law at his beloved University of Missouri and then tax law at New York University.
Hubert met Elaine at the Rockhurst Discussion Club, winning her heart among many contenders. They were married at Visitation Church in Kansas City, Missouri in 1965. They celebrated 59 years of marriage prior to Elaine’s passing in March 2024.
Hubert was dedicated to his family, encouraging his children to pursue their education, which produced a lawyer, a doctor, and an accountant, and a generation of grandchildren pursuing their own interests in math, science, and technology.
He was a professional, leader, entrepreneur, and investor in the fields of law, tax, finance, technology, and mergers and acquisitions. After serving in executive roles at North American Rockwell, Commercial Credit, The Seven-Up Company, and Genstar Corporation, he became Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary at ComputerLand Corp. Hubert later helped launch Martin Wolf Securities, where he spent over 20 years as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. He was known for being wickedly smart and a tough negotiator as well as a generous mentor to professionals, entrepreneurs, family, and friends.
Hubert’s life and career spanned America: Kansas City, New York, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, the San Francisco Peninsula, Blackhawk, California, and The Woodlands, Texas.
A loving husband, father, and friend, Hubert will be missed for his wisdom, but the love, knowledge, and philosophy of life he passed on will be remembered.
The family appreciates the loving care, visits, and prayers from so many.
