

James Glenn Smith, 91, of The Woodlands, formerly of Beaumont, passed away December 4, 2010. He was born July 17, 1919 in Sour Lake, TX to the late Will L. Smith, Sr. and Lillian Williams Smith. James is also preceded in death by his wife Zulma Gay Knowles Smith; daughter Marke Armide Smith; brothers Will L. Smith, Jr. and Aubrey Smith; sister Beatrice Haley. He is survived by his son Dr. Wm. Glenn Smith and wife Karen; sister Lillian E. Bourque and husband Clarence; grandchildren Jason Smith and wife Melissa, Erick Smith and wife Shelly, and Mandy Brock and husband Jeff; great grandchildren Adam, Andrew, Marly and Nathan; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
James earned a degree in business administration from Lamar University and a master of education degree at the University of Houston. He pursued graduate studies in a variety of fields and received certification in science and education from institutions in the United States and abroad. He spent 27 years as a physics and chemistry teacher at Beaumont High School (later Beaumont-Charlton-Pollard). He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp where he was a navigator during World War II. James was a member of Trinity Methodist Church, Beaumont, TX, Christ Church United Methodist, The Woodlands, TX, South Park Masonic Lodge #1320, the Optimist Club and Woodsmen of the World.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home. Funeral Services are set for 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at Christ Church United Methodist, 6363 Research Forest Dr., The Woodlands, TX 77381. Graveside Services will follow at 2:00 P.M. in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont, TX 77703.
