Jessica Marie Shelledy (née Jones)
September 1, 1983 – May 31, 2026
Brilliant, sardonic, and steadfast — Jessica Marie Shelledy, 42, passed away on May 31, 2026, from complications of esophageal adenocarcinoma. Forty-two years were not nearly enough time, but Jessica filled every one of them with loving devotion to family and unending intellectual curiosity.
Jessica grew up in The Woodlands, Texas, the eldest of her siblings and the one who set the standard, or at least hope, for all who followed. An intellectual hunger drew her to books, history, and meaningful conversation. She ventured out of Texas briefly for college, but it called her back, and she settled near The Woodlands, where her roots ran deep. A proud Texan, she loved cheering on the Astros, and catching the Savannah Bananas whenever possible.
Jessica first crossed paths with her husband Brian when they were on swim team together in 1994 where they got in trouble for talking, and again later in their high school choir. Across 12 1⁄2 years of marriage, Brian found in her not just a wife but a true partner, the two of them squeezing in adventures, Legos, board games and quiet time side by side. They loved to go on cruises together; disconnecting from the rest of the world and exploring drinks at the alchemy bar. It was never “I” with Jessica — it was always “we,” a reflection of the partnership they carried into every part of their life, including this fight.
She shared a love of Star Trek and all things Sci-Fi from an early age with her father and Aunt Cindy, which she continued exploring with Brian. Together they also enjoyed watching and rewatching episodes of Friends and The Big Bang Theory. Jessica was an avid crocheter — or, when she was honest, a yarn collector. She possessed vast and varied knowledge, was more often right than not — and knew it. She was a prolific reader, eager to explore different worlds and their variations from other people’s perspectives.
Jessica spent fifteen years as a much-relied-upon unit secretary at St. Luke’s. She was a foundation of competence for her colleagues, making sure the floor ran efficiently. She was the one her coworkers turned to for help; help she gave freely, if not always patiently, without hesitation.
Nothing mattered more to Jessica than her family. She was a steady presence who could always be counted on when someone she loved was in need. A devoted daughter, she was a rock for her mother as they coped with the death of her father. She was a fiercely loving sister to her brothers, and the coolest aunt to her nephew Cam and nieces Mila, Tessa, Pepper, and Maggie. She treasured her time with them, and they adored her in return. Often volunteering to babysit, she genuinely craved those hours, all while giving their parents a much-needed reprieve.
Throughout her battle, Jessica drew growing strength from her faith, finding a deepening relationship with God that brought her comfort and peace in her most difficult days. She faced her illness with remarkable grace and resolve, staying alive through sheer force of will — fighting so that she could see her young nieces one more time. She is home now, held in the arms of her Father, reunited with her dad and aunt — and the stories they shared are only just beginning again.
Jessica is survived by her husband, Brian Shelledy; her mother, Elizabeth Daniels-Jones and fiance David Tvedte; her grandmother, Julie Daniels; Uncle Jeff Daniels, her siblings Robert & Adriana, Thomas, and John & Elizabeth Jones; her nephew Camden and nieces Mila, Tessa, and Margaret; her in-laws Victoria & Daniel Shelledy, Jonathan & Youngson Shelledy, and niece Lauren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Michael Jones, Aunt Cynthia Jones, and grandparents Robert Daniels and Thomas & Janice Jones.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes charitable contributions in Jessica’s name to Canopy Cancer Survivorship Center or the Montgomery County Memorial Library System.
