John Michael Hughes, known to everyone as Mike, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family and special friends in his final moments.
Born in Houston, Texas, Mike graduated from Nimitz High School and attended Stephen F. Austin State University and was a proud and faithful member of Woodland Oaks Church of Christ for many years, recently joining The Woodlands Methodist Church.
Mike is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Lisa Taylor Hughes, and his two beloved sons, Zachary Chapman Hughes and Judson Campbell “Jake” Hughes. He is also remembered by many extended family members and countless friends whose lives he touched deeply. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Jay D. Hughes, his mother, Peggy Ann Chapman, and his mother-in-law, Betty Jo Campbell.
Mike had a lifelong passion for the real estate industry. In 1990, he acquired his first commercial property, The Village on Woodforest Boulevard on the east side of Houston and owned and managed several rental properties. In 1999 he founded JDH Association Management Company. For over 30 years, Mike built and led several successful companies, always with a focus on serving others and building community. In 2021, he embarked on a new venture with CMI Association Management, continuing his mission of leadership and service.
Throughout his career, Mike was active in many professional and civic organizations, including the North Channel Rotary Club, The Woodlands Rotary Club, Community Association Institute, and many others. His energy and enthusiasm for both business and community service left an impact everywhere he went.
Beyond his professional life, Mike loved sports — especially cheering on his Houston Texans and Astros. Some of his best memories were made sitting with family in their living room or at the stadium, sharing their passion for the game. Mike also loved traveling with his family and close friends, creating countless adventures and memories, but his heart was always the happiest at home.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home, 18000 Interstate 45 S. The Woodlands, TX 77384. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, with services to follow at 10:00 AM. Mike will be laid to rest at his family cemetery, Strong Cemetery, in Henderson, Texas, among generations of loved ones.
