In John's long full life, he enjoyed many different activities. When he was a teenager, during WWII, John could not enlist in the service because he was too young. Because the war took all the men to go and fight there were no men left to work on the farms - so each summer John would take the bus from Arkansas where he lived to his cousin's farm in Pennsylvania to help work the farm until it was time for him to return to Arkansas to go back to school. He loved this activity. He loved animals and the outdoors of the farm life. After graduating from high school, John along with his childhood friend Jack, enlisted in the Marine Corps. Here they were transformed from skinny teenage boys into muscle-bound men of fighting caliber. When this part of his life was complete, John enrolled in college earning a Bachelors Degree of Music Education and then a Masters Degree of Music Education. Upon graduation from college John married Beverly Grosbeck and they moved out to Colorado where they lived, taught school and raised their two children. John loved living in Colorado and his teaching assignments there took him to the farm communities where he taught the children of the farmers. This was perfect for John having learned about the life of farmers and their hard work on his cousin's farm in Pennsylvania. He taught the children how to play musical instruments but he also taught them about music appreciation and everything that went into making music. When he retired from teaching, John went to work at the El Paso County Library in Colorado Springs. He loved this job and stayed until Beverly's health necessitated his retirement. In the early 2000's John joined the New Horizons Music Organization (NHB). NHB is orchestra for people over 55 years who want to either learn or continue to play music. John really excelled in this endeavor. Family and friends enjoyed many of the concerts that he participated in. He even wrote entire scores for the orchestra's different instruments.
John began a new life with Bonnie in 2005 when they married. They enjoyed the activities of the orchestra, the Shriners and traveled to many fun destinations. In 2014, John and Bonnie moved to Texas to be near Bonnie's son and daughter-in-law (Drew and Kelly). In May, John and Bonnie celebrated 20 wonderful years of marriage.
We are all very fortunate to have been a part of John's life.
Interment will be in the Mausoleum at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #2, Houma, LA, at a later date.
