My condolences to his family.  I've known John since FMC days, and through his various incarnations since, including recent volunteer work with ASME. For such a bright, successful  guy, he was always easy going and fun to be with.  I'll miss him.

Our condolences to Celeste and family.  I knew John as a customer and friend and always looked forward to our visits.  John was always helpful with his clever approaches to solving problems and I always enjoyed his company.  Our industry lost a great technical mind and a better man.

Sad to hear this today. John was a great guy. Most down to earth clever engineer I've known. Always willing to share his knowledge in easy to understand terms. Did a lot for the industry and FMC in particular.  Will be missed as a colleague and friend.

John was a recognized innovator and senior leader in the oil and gas industry with over 35 years in all facets of subsea -engineering, drilling, production, systems, processing and boosting, R&D with 34 patents. He was a larger-than-life figure in the careers of the many engineers over the years, advising, cajoling and exhorting us to strive to progress the technology and innovation needed to sustain the deep-water industry. He expected greatness; he demanded independence, creativity and critical thinking. And, above all, he was ever open to advancing novel technology solutions to solve the impossibly complex work issues we were challenged to solve.

John's distinguished career saw him working with many of the companies at the vanguard of the oil and industry  FMC, Cameron, Shell, BP, amongst others. His flexible mindset allowed him to serve in multiple roles - Technology Program Manager, Program General Manager Deepwater Facilities, VP Coiled Tubing Systems, Director of Global Engineering R&D, and Engineering Manager. Many are the industry group that benefitted from his keen insights - ASME, API, National Petroleum Council, Arctic Research Steering Committee, RPSEA, Deepstar, to name a few.

John's presence transformed the workplace into a place of energy, excitement and collaboration among peers. Moreover, John fostered a learning environment that allowed for the injection of real world science into the many technical challenges we aspired to conquer. For example, John was a key player in raising the profile and credibility of the deep-water R&D team at Shell. His wide industry knowledge, network of contacts and ability to contribute in a practical and pragmatic way supported our R&D and early concepts projects in deep-water subsea technology. 

John was an excellent person to work with and a strong coach for less experienced and/or more junior staff. Although I worked with John for a short two years, he was clearly a respected and very knowledgeable individual with a willingness to share his experience and skills with others. John possessed considerable technical knowledge and offered advice and direction on a range of subsea engineering issues. As my own career developed, I've come to understand and appreciate the enormous influence he's had on my approach to work. The programs I was responsible for are the better of John's input. His standards weren't just high, they were nearly unattainable.

John was brilliant, intuitive and unbelievably innovative, and for all those reasons he was a towering figure in the industry and my career. He was also generous and gracious to those who worked with him, treating us as colleagues and even as members of an extended family. Being a fellow peer in the oil and gas industry, was enough to forge a life-long bond with John. And while I will miss him as a mentor and friend, I'm comforted by the knowledge that his accomplishments, the many folks he mentored and his intellect are enduring and will continue to exemplify the very best in deep-water technology innovation.

We send our most heartfelt condolences to Celeste and the family. I've known John for over thirty years, and I consider him to be one of the best 'rubber guys' I've ever met. John spent many hours at various conferences we were attending late at night mentoring me one-on-one. His knowledge and his ability to impart that knowledge to others was amazing. John and I shared a love of fast cars, I still remember that weekend touring the CA vineyards in the GNX when we visited John and Celeste's home. John will be truly missed - we've lost a very good friend.

Celeste and family,

I am so sorry for your loss.  John and I crossed paths at numerous companies over the past 20 years. He was a great friend and was always there with an opinion and support when asked. Will miss him at the car gatherings and our discussion on whose car was better/faster. You will all be in our thoughts and prayers.

John touched many of us that knew him.  We are very sorry for your loss.  I met John when he was at Firestone and had a bit to do with his joining us at Cameron.  Several that have shared this news have mentioned that John is already missed.

Celeste my thoughts are with you during your time of sadness. John was the rare individual that welcomed everyone with a cherry smile and a kind word of encouragement. It is a source of amazement that he had the time to devote to anyone that needed him ... Rest in peace my dear friend.

Dear Celeste,

I am so very sorry for your loss.  

Although it's been years since we've seen each other, I remember John, Johnny, you, and all the dogs you had when you lived in Perry, OH.

You and John were among the nicest, most welcoming people I ever knew.  Polly e-mailed me about John's passing.  Right on the heels of Jim --- I'm sure they are blabbing about chemistry and old times right now.
